Excerpt

I give a very theatrical, hopefully convincing yawn. “Wow, it’s late and I’m beat. Time for bed.” I click off the television as Ace stands and helps me to my feet.

He doesn’t let go of my hand. We’re close enough that I can feel heat radiating from his body. I breathe in the scent of him, pine and snow. He’s only wearing a thin black tee shirt, and I’m pretty sure I can pick out the definition of every part of his body.

He still hasn’t let go of my hand. Lightly, he runs his thumb across my palm.

“I don’t know if you got the full tour of the house. Best thing about it, in my opinion, is the spa hot tub. It’s just outside.”

“Oh?” I should take my hand away, but my body won’t do what I tell it. “It’s a little cold out there, isn’t it?”

“Once you’re in, you won’t even notice. I’m planning on a midnight soak.” He pulls me a little closer, mischief in his expression. “Why don’t you join me?”

“I.” There’s nothing I can say that’ll make sense. Ace grins. It’s a wicked smile, that’s the only way to describe it. “I don’t think I should,” I manage. “There’s a perfectly functional tub in my bathroom, anyway. So. I’ll just take a raincheck. On the hot tub.”

“You don’t want to try it?” He lets go of my hand and touches my face. “Or is it that you’re afraid of me?” He trails his fingertips across my cheek. “Which is it? Door one or two? One of them leads to a fabulous destination vacation.” His voice drops to a lower register. A sexy one. “You should loosen up, party planner. It’s just hot water. And I promise you’ll still be your tough and capable self afterward.”

My breath hitches in my throat. I’m almost ready to say something stupid, like ‘I don’t have a bathing suit’ or ‘which way to the pitch black snowy outdoors?’ when common sense crashes through the window to truss me up, sling me over its shoulder, and race away.

“It’s going to be a long day tomorrow. I should get some sleep. Good night.” I break away from him as not-awkwardly as possible and head upstairs. I have to stop halfway up, though, and lean against the railing and close my eyes. My heart is still racing, and all the heat in my body has pooled, not so unwelcomely, between my legs.

I told the truth—I do have to grab a shower and go to bed. But the thought of Ace out there in the hot tub, stripped down, his muscles relaxing under the beat of the jets…

I’ll probably need to make it a cold shower.

RELEASE BLITZ – Undeniably Asher by K.L. Kreig

Title: Undeniably Asher

Series: The Colloway Brothers #2

Author: K.L. Kreig

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Erotica

 Release Date: December 2, 2015

Blurb

Memories.

When does our past stop picking at our scars and start letting them heal?

Scars.

Can we see beyond our wounds to the possibilities the future holds?

Possibilities.

How do we let ourselves become vulnerable enough to trust the love that’s right in front of us?

Fate. She’s a fickle, wily bitch that slaps us in the face every opportunity she gets. Sometimes it’s a taunt, but sometimes it’s a goddamn wake-up call to pay attention. Take what’s rightfully yours without shame or apology. So when destiny put me straight in Alyse Kingsley’s path once again, I knew this was one slap I wasn’t ignoring. I’d let her get away once. I wouldn’t again. She was mine and I was takin’ her, kicking and screaming if need be.

Alyse ~ Deceit and betrayal. Every single person who was supposed to love me committed one of these.

My mother.

My father.

My sister.

My lover.

Incapable of letting people see the real me, I hold them at arm’s length. But Asher Colloway is relentless and it doesn’t take long before I cave to his pursuits. The big question is: can I let him in where it counts most? Before ghosts from my past come back to haunt me in ways I can’t possibly fathom? Before it’s too late?

Asher ~ Trust. Forgiveness. Impossible concepts, having been fucked over by a woman I’d loved before. But those aren’t my only personality flaws.

I’m possessive.

I’m jealous.

I’m dominant.

I have a secret kink.

I want Alyse. All of her. She shows people the shiny, untainted surface. I want the murky, damaged depth. The shadows. I want in all the way. Just when I think I’ve made it, fate cruelly bitch-slaps me again. And this time I don’t see it coming. The question now is: what am I willing to do to keep the woman I love by my side? And can Alyse accept me the way I am, faults and all?

Excerpt

Before his lips touch mine, I see my plea reflected. Asher has a past, maybe as painful as mine, maybe not, but a past nonetheless. We all do. We all walk with our own story, our own secrets, our own damage, our own scars. Internal and external. Some of us just carry them better than others.

It’s apparent someone hurt him, broke his trust. Broke his heart, even. And I want to know about her. I want to know who turned such a caring, romantic, handsome man who could have any woman he wants into someone who can’t commit.

But can he commit now?

Can I?

As Asher kisses me long and deep, the questions and doubt fade into nothingness, powerful lust and longing easily taking their place. Just like every other time he touches me. Nothing feels more right than when his lips are on mine.

He’s like gravity.

He keeps me grounded in the present and out of my own head, where my personal demons try to torment me.

Mouth never leaving mine, Asher pulls me across his lap and suddenly I wished I’d worn a skirt for easy access, because I desperately need his hands on me. Instead I have dark, tight jeans and a clingy, black long-sleeved blouse, which shows off the swell of my breasts, courtesy of the deep purple push-up bra I’m wearing.

“Alyse,” he mumbles against my goose-pebbled flesh. “Tell me what you like, what you want.” His hands tightly grip my waist, hot tongue traveling slowly down to the base of my throat. His rock-hard erection pulses beneath me, throbbing, keeping time with my own beats.

What do I want? So many things. So many dirty, wicked things. Things I’ve never wanted with anyone else. I know Asher can show me. I’ve been with several men, but I almost feel like a virgin with him. Not in the physical sense, but the emotional one. I believed him when he said he would own me. God help me, I want that. I’ve thought of nothing else than what it would be like to be completely and wholly his in every sense of the word.

I will the chains I’ve secured tightly around my heart to loosen. I imagine the lock clicking open and slack taking up the links I’d wound so tightly, so securely that no one could penetrate them. It’s terrifying. It feels foreign, naked, like taking off a piece of jewelry you’ve not removed for years, the imprint of the precious metal leaving a visible mark behind.

And then I do the one thing that feels right in this moment, but goes against all that I’ve tried to protect myself from over the last eight years.

I submit.

“I want you to own me,” I beseech. Beg. Implore.

All of me. Not just my body.

My voice echoes loudly in the darkened room, like I’ve yelled those six words at the top of my lungs for the whole world to hear and judge versus barely uttered so that they sound distant, even to my own ears. I’m not even sure Asher heard me.

But he did.

His lips still, his body tenses, and his grasp becomes almost painfully tight. When he pulls back, the insatiable lust swirling in the depths of his striking blues causes my stomach to drop like I’ve just been tossed off a five-story building.

Burning eyes never leaving mine, one hand pushes underneath my blouse, traveling up to palm my breast. He pulls down the cup, his nimble fingers tweaking my hardened nipple. Pleasure ricochets off every cell like a pinball machine, landing squarely between my pounding thighs. My eyes drift closed on a moan until I hear his dark command.

“Look at me, baby.” His fingers never stop pulling and pinching and twisting, each movement sending another sharp zing on a fast track south of the border.

I finally comply, but my blinks are long and heavy.

“Fuck, I want to corrupt you in the wickedest of ways and completely ruin you in the best possible ones.”

He’s asking for permission, even though I already gave it.

He’s asking for trust, when it’s already his.

He’s asking me to be sure.

I am.

Letting a small smile tug the corners of my lips, I reassure him.

“Promise?”

This is the hardest part…talking about myself.

I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and is obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicious cycle. I love carbs, but there’s a love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out, I’m a raving bitch. My iPad and I: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a badass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter, and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).

I have a great job (no…truly it is) outside of writing. My kids and my husband are my entire world and I’d never have made it this far without them. My soul mate husband of nearly twenty-eight years provides unwavering support and my two grown children know the types of books I write and they don’t judge their mom anyway (and my daughter is a beta reader even…yes, that can be awkward…very).

I’m sincerely humbled by each and every like on my Facebook page or sign-up for my newsletter or outreach from someone who has read and loved my books. I still can’t get over the great support. The romance book community is a wonderful and supportive one. I’ve made more friends in the last year than I’ve made in my life and I’m a pretty affable person. It’s surreal. I’m pretty sure it always will be.

In short, I am blessed…and I know it.

Awoken from a restless sleep, I find myself entangled in a fantasy of my own making, lured into a sensual scenario by the seductive chords of West Coast by Lana del Ray. I’m screwing my eyes tight, holding the vision in my mind’s eyes, keeping it alive. I see a face, not imaginary but familiar, so real it makes me gasp.

Ayden.

The rasp of warm breath in my ear stimulates my body into spontaneous arousal. I allow his heat to envelop me, to wrap itself around me like wings, taking me far away from here, taking me home.

A whimper leaves my lips, and I call out into the darkness, “Don’t leave me.”

“I’m here. Hush, now,” he whispers, softly.

He soothes my fear with words of comfort. The sounds of my distress disperse until all I hear is the hoarseness of my breathing and the ebb and flow of a serene sea.

“That’s it. Good, girl.”

Stirred by his words, I fall back onto the sheets restless and in need of his attention. He explores my body with unhurried movements, hands and lips and tongue becoming a charismatic cocktail to stimulate and seduce. With masculine hands he kneads my breasts, rolling my nipples between forefinger and thumb until they are hard pebbles. With an outstretched palm he circles my stomach; fingertips skimming my pubic bone, teasing, tantalizing with the promise of immeasurable pleasure.

He roams my body with covetous eyes that speak of possession. I’m his—my body, my heart and my soul belongs to him. He knows what I need.

I need him to make me forget, to make me believe he is mine, and mine alone.

With the lightest of touches, he traces the line of my thigh, making his way to his desired destination, inching my legs apart, leaving me vulnerable and at his mercy. Imagining his warm fingers stroking and circling my swollen clitoris causes my breath to quicken. As my body temperature rises, so the heat building in my groin becomes a throbbing pulse only he can ease and bring to an orgasmic heaven.

My body is alive.

I hear his voice, husky, pleading, “Come back to me, baby.”

I want to, I have to. My breathing turns to moans as his movements quicken. I pull at my hair with my free hand, picturing a mass of dark curls positioned between my legs, bobbing to the beat of a rhythmic chorus. My orgasm builds until it’s a rippling tide rolling me over and over, scattering my thoughts. Like an unstoppable wave, it seeks out the darkest corners of my soul where fear lives, engulfing my loneliness.

A searing glow radiates through my body, until I am scorched by it, unable to speak or move. So profound is the intensity of my husband’s gifted lovemaking.

When I open my eyes, my fantasy disappears likes morning mist, leaving only shadows and memories that seem to have gathered around me like unexpected bedfellows. Turning onto my side, I wrap my arms around myself, feeling the warmth fade.

The darkness returns.

I’m sated.

But alone.

His three-piece black pin-striped suit looked crisp and dark against his fair skin, and his white shirt and slate-gray tie shimmered in the glow of the light overhead. I took a few steps forward. “What are you doing here?” I asked. His eyes shot down to my feet, and I followed his gaze, remembering that I’d forgotten to put my heels back on. “Always losing your shoes,” he commented, a smile curling his mouth. I pursed my lips and turned around, snatching my heels off the seat and slipping them back onto my feet. Grabbing the back of the chair, I pulled it behind me and entered my classroom, knowing he’d follow. “You came to my workplace unannounced,” he stated behind me. “I thought I would return the favor.” I replaced my chair behind my desk and looked up, seeing that he had closed the door behind him. “And?” I prompted. “And I came to apologize,” he admitted, stopping a few feet in front of my desk. “I’ve been unfair, and I’m sorry. Christian has his phone back, so we’ll see how this goes.” I stilled, my heart galloping in my chest, and I almost smiled. Really? I opened my mouth but had to swallow the lump before I could speak. “Well, that’s great,” I said, surprised. “Thank you.” I guess I got through to him at his office. He slid one of his hands into a pocket and narrowed his eyes on me, looking a little surprised. “You seem very knowledgeable and determined.” His voice sounded genuine. “You’re an impressive woman, Ms. Bradbury, and I should’ve taken the time to understand your methods.” I kept my shoulders squared, but my eyes dropped, embarrassment warming my cheeks. “Thank you,” I mumbled, turning around to grab a dry-erase marker to start writing the schedule on the board for when then kids came back on Thursday. “Christian talks about your class,” he said behind me. “I can tell your teaching interests him, even if he would never admit it.” I uncapped the marker and rested my hand on the board but didn’t write anything. “He really can’t stand me, can he?” I dropped my hand to my side and spun around slowly, surprised by his question. And feeling terrible all over again. I should never have said that. No matter how much I thought I knew about him, they were nothing more than assumptions. Who was I to insinuate his son didn’t care for him or vice versa? And what gave me the right to say anything at all in the first place? He breathed deeply, and for the first time since I’d met him, he looked unsure of himself. “I was twenty when he was born,” he told me. “That’s no excuse, but it’s the only one I have.” Twenty. I was twenty-three, and I couldn’t imagine having a child right now. I watched him and waited, not wanting to say anything or interrupt because I found I kind of liked it when he talked. “I know what you think of me.” He looked me dead in the eye and then dropped his gaze, speaking in a voice close to a whisper. “And what he thinks of me.” And then he let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “I don’t know why I even care what you think. You don’t give a shit about me, but I guess that’s what’s so intriguing.” He moved forward, his soft eyes turning to steel. “You’re so cold and distant,” he charged. “I guess I wouldn’t think anything of it if I hadn’t seen you so different at one time.” I inhaled a shaky breath, looking down at his right hand. The same one that had held my waist while we danced. I licked my lips, barely noticing him advance. “You were flirty and fun.” His voice turned husky, and I looked up, seeing him round my desk slowly. “And you keep pissing me off, but it feels good,” he whispered, playing with me, drawing me in. I knew that look in his eyes. I may not know much about him, but I knew that look. And we were in my classroom. His son’s classroom. I may have had little shame, but he had none. “Mr.—” He cut me off. “Why won’t you ever say my name?” I shook my head, confused. “Why do you care what I think?” “I don’t,” he maintained. “I care that you don’t think of me at all.” I narrowed my eyes on him, clenching my teeth. “That’s not . . .” I trailed off, plastering my back against the whiteboard as he hovered over me. “That’s not what?” he pressed, his voice sounding strained. He stood so close that I had only to lift a hand and I could touch him. “That’s not true,” I finished. He leaned in. “You look at me like I don’t matter.” His eyes searched mine. “And I don’t like it.”

PROMO TOUR – Places to See Series by Jennifer Conner, Sharon Kleve, Angela Ford & Natalie-Nicole Bates

PLACES TO SEE SERIES

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

Aubri, Paget, Erika, and Jade were there to support their boss after the loss of his daughter. Mr. Simon knows the women work too hard and with his daughter’s death, he’s found that life is short.
For Christmas, he decides to give the four women an early present and fly them anywhere in the world they want to go with all expenses paid.

They choose Germany, France, Italy, and Bulgaria.

The girls know how to work but can they learn how to have fun?

Come along with Aubri, Paget, Erika, and Jade as they travel around the world and maybe along the way…even fall in love.

Book One ~ Kisses and Strudel
by Jennifer Conner

It was thoughtful of Aubri’s boss to send her anywhere in the world for a Christmas gift. As the buyer for her department store, if Aubri traveled to Germany she could kill two birds. She’d find clever, unique German gifts while enjoying the sites. Aubri’s mind was focused on work…that was, until she met Ryker. She was looking for nutcrackers and not a ruggedly handsome German who wanted to ask her out.

After finding himself blinded in a fall, Ryker spent most of his time working at his family’s old world Christmas shop. His family loyalty ran deep and they needed him. Between his long work hours, he knew that it was twelve hundred cobblestones between his shop and the town square. Getting around town with little assistance and work was all he needed, or that’s what he thought until he met Aubri.

Come for a fun filled holiday ride across the German countryside to see if Aubri and Ryker find that being out your comfort zone can also bring you love.

“Since we’re being truthful, I’m not beautiful…so, sorry to disappoint you.”

“Are you kidding me? The last thing I am is disappointed. You’re funny, smart, and know lots about your company and your business. You’re right, I can only tell that you have dark hair, a big fluffy scarf, and soft hands. I can’t picture someone until I can imagine their face.”

“How do you imagine them?”

Ryker drew his glove slowly off his hand and scooted close. “I can only imagine someone’s face if I touch it. Can I touch yours?”

“Yes.” She nodded.

He cupped her cheek. Gently, like the brush of a butterfly’s wing, he drew his index finger over her eyebrow, across her eye, cheek and then down across her lips. He continued slowly up the other side as though he was mapping each inch. His touch was one of the most stirring and sensual things Aubri had ever felt.

He smiled faintly. “Now, I know what you look like…and you lied, you are beautiful.”

Book Two ~ In Love With Paris
by Sharon Kleve

Paget Murphy doesn’t expect to find love in Paris for the holidays, until she bumps into a handsome stranger at the airport. He is everything she has ever wanted in a man—kind, generous, and he loves art as much as she does!

Christopher Paris can’t believe his luck when he bumps into a beautiful stranger. He is a curator at the Louvre and that is where Paget intends to spend most of her time in Paris. He plans to occupy every free moment with her—running, eating, and making love.

With a continent separating them, will they find a way to spend the most memorable holiday together—Christmas?

One of the airport gift shops displayed the New York Times latest book releases and my favorite romance author, Susan Couple’s, Love Comes for the Holidays sat front and center of the rack. The hardcover displayed a large Christmas tree filled with lights, ornaments and a breathtakingly gorgeous couple kissing in front of a fireplace. I grabbed a copy and clutched it to my chest and rushed to counter. As the clerk rang up the book, I added a large bag of M&M’s. What could be better than chocolate and a good romance novel? Susan Couple would probably say a sexy man, but there was a shortage of those in my life.

That’s when it hit me, the woman that got out of that rude man’s car looked exactly like the photo on the back cover of Love Comes for the Holidays. Sharp, silver-blue eyes stared out from her chiseled, small oval face topped with short, spiky jet-black hair. Holy cripes, Susan Couple was here at the airport.

As I turned with the book still clutched to my chest and I bumped into a wall, well not a wall, but a solid mass of muscle that smelled of some wonderful, smoky, exotic scent. He gently grabbed my shoulders but he didn’t let go when I looked up into his enchanted, lash-fringed, green eyes. His perfectly chiseled jaw looked like something Michelangelo would have carved himself.

Pardon.” His sultry, rich, baritone voice made my stomach flutter.

If I stepped two inches closer I’d be wrapped in his strong arms. I immediately stepped back. What was I thinking? This gorgeous guy was a complete stranger.

Book Three ~ Christmas in Tuscany
by Angela Ford

What’s pleasure without a mix of business? That’s how Erika thinks and that’s how she succeeds. Erika Mason is a workaholic. She admits it. But when her boss offers her a trip of a lifetime instead of her regular bonus, she books a wine tour in Tuscany. He makes her promise it’s for pleasure and not business. But Erika has studied the Tuscan Christmas markets and with her new wine shop paired with chocolates; it’s exactly where she needs to go.

Then she meets her tour guide, Massimo Conte. His delicious chocolate brown eyes enriched with his Italian accent takes business out of her equation. After one passionate night Erika wonders if she’s been a fool. Massimo confesses of his drunken night the month before at his brother’s hotel with a woman he doesn’t love. She’s announced she’s pregnant.

Two people fall in love. Two others have fooled them into believing the pregnant woman. A family affair interrupts Christmas plans. Until one mother is determined to uncover which brother is actually the father so she can mend broken hearts and set the table for Christmas.

“A fascinating beautiful woman you are, Erika.” He moved his chair to sit beside her and then reached for her hand. He lifted it to his lips and left a gentle kiss. “I’ve waited for the woman of my dreams to appear and here you are.” His words definitely confirmed her suspicion of a mutual attraction. Unless, she wondered; his words were part of an act to get her into his bed. Her promise to hold off a relationship until she found the one she’d spend her life with was suddenly filed at the back of her brain. Even if this turned out to be a fling, it would remain as memorable as the wine tour. She nervously chuckled.

“I bet you say that to all the girls.”

He joined her laughter. “That didn’t come out quite the way I’d expected. It wasn’t an attempt to get you into my bed. Trust me. I’m not that guy. That would be my brother.”

Darn! I was just imagining how great a lover you’d be.

Book Four ~ Twice As Nice Christmas
by Natalie-Nicole Bates

Jade Edmonds, an accessories buyer for an upscale department store, is forced by her kind hearted boss to take a Christmas vacation. She decides to visit the Bulgarian home she purchased on a whim, sight unseen from the internet. What starts off as a dream vacation soon turns into a nightmare of events including turbulent flights with screaming babies, snow storms, and a house that is not quite what Jade imagined.

But there is one constant bright spot. It seems wherever Jade finds trouble, charming London-living, English interpreter, Damyon Vadkov, is always there to help. The two spend a magical month in Bulgaria, and love is in the air. Their separation looms large as the couple need to return to their lives in separate countries. Will this be the end, or just the beginning?

I still can’t believe what I’ve shared with this man I’ve only known for less than a week. Yet it seems we’ve been together for the ages. Maybe there really is something to past lives, and those lives and the people from them intersecting with the present. Or perhaps that’s all just whimsy, and our meeting was Fate, or merely chance.

All I know for sure is I am happy that we did meet. Then that little voice in my head tells me to not get attached to Damyan. That any time now we will separate and all that will remain are the memories. I know that’s what I wanted, but now, I’m not sure. I’ve never met such a kind and decent man. I will be reluctant to leave him behind.

But oh what a vacation he has given to me so far, and though we’ve not spoken about Christmas, I’m hoping we’ll spend it together – maybe even both celebrations. The traditional December 25 date, and the January 7 Orthodox Christmas.

How totally divine! Christmas celebrated two times. Twice as nice!

“Uh, hey, Ivy.”

Her gaze traveled up long legs, past a trim waist to a familiar, broad chest, all protected by turnout gear.

“Going in or out?” Cade quipped with a smirk.

“Very funny.” Ivy blew a wisp of hair out of her eyes. “How about taking care of the conflagration about to erupt on my stove? That’s your job, right?”

“O’Brien’s on it.” He kneeled down so they were more at eye level. “Do you think I’d be here calmly making small talk if you were still in danger?”

“I was not in danger.” Much.

“Are you kidding?” His eyes flashed. “You’re damn lucky it wasn’t worse—which it would have been if it wasn’t for the state-of-the art security system Nick had installed. As it is, you’ll have to ventilate the kitchen for a few days to get rid of the smell. And you owe your sister and her husband a new saucepan. But that’s the extent of it.”

He tilted his head to study the half of her that had made it into the house. “Well, that and the fact that you’re stuck in the doggy door.”

She consoled herself with the thought that he was inside, not on the porch talking to her ass.

“Yeah, about that…” She held her hands out. “Could you, maybe, pull me out of here or something?”

He sat on his very fine butt, bracing his feet against the door on either side of her, and grabbed her forearms. As embarrassed as she was, she couldn’t stop the hum of pleasure that buzzed through her at his touch.

“Ready?” he asked, his gaze boring into hers. “On three.”

She swallowed hard and nodded.

“One…two…three.”

He pulled. She stayed.

“Hmm.” He released her and wiped his hands on his bunker pants. “You’re really wedged in there.”

She rolled her eyes. “Tell me something I don’t know, Captain Obvious.”

Another firefighter, who Ivy recognized from the softball game as the company captain, appeared behind Cade, followed by two more.

A bigger audience. Fan-freaking-tastic.

“The rest of the house is all clear,” Cappy announced.

“Need some help rescuing your girlfriend?” one of the others asked. “Or are you with the blonde this week? I can’t keep your women straight.”

“Zip it, O’Brien,” Cappy barked. “And get in line.”

In a matter of seconds, they’d formed a human chain with Cade at the front and the guy Cappy called O’Brien as the anchor.

“Hold on tight,” Cade said, gripping her arms again. “Like last time. On three.”

“Shouldn’t we have someone push from—pardon the pun—behind?” O’Brien’s voice reeked of snark.

“I hate to admit it, but that’s not a bad idea.” Cappy pulled his radio out of his belt and pressed the button. “Sykes. Send a team around back. We’ve got a female trapped in the pet door and need some pushing power.”

Pushing power? What was she? Fudgie the Whale?

Oh, wait, she’d almost forgotten. In this town, she’d always be Jabba the Mutt, no matter how long she’d been gone or how much weight she’d lost. Precisely why she’d stayed away for almost thirteen years. And why she was leaving the minute her father was back in top form.

“Ready out here, Cap,” a voice crackled over the radio.

“Okay, like Cade said, on three.” Cappy returned to his place in line. “One…”

She felt a pair of hands on her ass. Could this possibly get any more humiliating?

“Two…”

She let out a squeak as the hands shifted, hopefully to find a better pushing position and not to cop a cheap feel.

“Enjoying yourself?” Cade quirked a brow.

Oh, yeah. It could get more humiliating.

“Hardly.” She closed her eyes to escape his teasing smile.

“Three.”

Grunts and groans, mixed with an occasional expletive, filled the room. She felt like a chew toy caught between two rottweilers as the firefighters tugged and shoved.

“That’s it.”

“She’s coming free.”

“Almost there.”

“One more and she’s out.”

With a pop, Ivy sprang loose, landing like a wet rag in Cade’s lap. She forced her eyes open to see him looking down at her with a shit-eating grin.

“Nice catch,” she uttered, scrambling off him.

I take another hit of the Campari cocktail. “Have you ever gone swimming in the Mediterranean?”

He smiles. “Dozens of times. The water is incredible. If we have time, I want to take you swimming.”

A frisson of anxiety curls in my gut. Not only am I afraid of swimming in the sea, but I also sure as hell don’t want Brandon to see me in a bathing suit again.

“I don’t think so. You know, I’m still afraid of the ocean.”

He laughs. “The Mediterranean isn’t an ocean. It’s a sea. And technically, the part here in Cannes is a bay. So, the water is very calm. Barely a wave.”

“B-but I didn’t bring a bathing suit.” The truth. I never even thought of bringing one since I packed so hastily.

He laughs again and unnerves me. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll buy you a bikini.”

I gulp. A bikini—the last thing I want to be caught dead in! Especially with Brandon. As I envision the worst, he continues.

“There’s probably a boutique right in the hotel.” He regards me coyly. “You may only need a bottom. Most women here sun and swim topless.”

I gulp again. The ring of Brandon’s phone saves me from responding. Thank God, because I’m at a loss for words.

My eyes stay on him as he pulls out his cell from his jeans pocket and glances down at the caller ID. His lips twist and his brows furrow. Katrina? The phone continues to ring while I anxiously circle the rim of my glass with my fingertip. To my relief, he doesn’t answer it, and, in fact, turns it off. “Fuck it,” he mumbles under his breath. His frown morphs into a smile when Antoine personally brings us our meal along with the bottle of wine.

“Bon appetit,” says the jovial man, setting our order down.

The tantalizing, garlicky aroma of the mussels wafts up my nose. My appetite is aroused.

“Antoine makes the best mussels meuniere in all of the Riviera,” Brandon tells me.

Antoine smiles proudly. He uncorks the wine and pours Brandon a bit. Brandon takes a sip and nods approvingly. “C’est parfait.”

It’s perfect. He’s perfect. We share the big bowl of mussels and the crispy fries, sensuously feeding helpings to one another and imbibing the refreshing pink wine between bites. Moans escape my mouth. Not only are the mussels divine, but their tender meat is also charging me with sexual energy. Mussels must be some kind of aphrodisiac. But actually, everything is turning me on. The food, the wine, the setting. And most of all, the mouth-watering man sitting across from me. My eyes don’t waver from him as I feed him the last mussel. His luscious lips clamp down on the edible part and then he sucks on it.

“Mmm,” he moans, closing his eyes as he does. Every ounce of me is buzzing and there’s a wet fire inside my panties. He swallows and licks his upper lip. Another gush of wetness and a rush of hot tingles besiege me. He re-opens his eyes and meets my gaze, holding it fiercely. Before either of us can say word, a staunch, swarthy woman appears on the terrace. Holding an accordion, she heads our way. Once at our table, she stretches out the instrument and starts to serenade us.

“Inoubliable…”

Oh my God! In one word, the song is instantly recognizable. “Unforgettable.” Mama’s favorite song…sung in French. With the husky voice of a fallen angel, the songstress’s moving rendition pulls at my heartstrings. Tears flood my eyes.

“Why are you crying?” Brandon asks, tenderly brushing my unstoppable tears away.

“This was Mama’s favorite song. She sang it all the time. It reminded her of Papa.” Sniffling, I pause while the dark memory fills my head. “It was playing on the Pier when she was shot.”

“I’m sorry. It’s a beautiful song,” he says softly, cutting into the painful, unforgettable memory. His violet eyes burn right through me and his voice grows softer. “Almost as beautiful as you.”

My watering eyes blink several times while my breath hitches in my throat and my heart hammers against my chest. His words swirl around in my head like confetti. They shower my flesh with flecks of heightened sensation and my soul with explosive emotion. I begin to unravel.

And then he does something that totally turns me into vapor. Tracing my tear-soaked jaw, Brandon sings along in English, his voice pure velvet, as devastating as the man he is

“Oh, Brandon!” I weep out his name. The impact of this magical moment has reduced to me to mush.

Still singing and melting my heart, my gorgeous god of a man stands up, and rounding the table, pulls out my chair. “Dance with me, Zoey.” A soft but strong command.

On my next sniffle, I’m in his strong arms, my head resting on his beating heart, my arms draped around his shoulders, as he moves me slowly to the melody and words. Swaying me side to side, he sings into my ear while tears stream down my face and dampen his linen shirt. I lose myself in him with each slow measured step. It’s as if there is no one else in the world but the two of us. Unforgettable…as the word drifts into a hypnotic hum, he draws me closer to him, pressing his lips on my scalp. I feel the warmth of them and his taut body flush against mine. I melt into his ripples and his arousal. He owns me and I don’t have the strength or desire to break away. Physically or mentally.

I’m drunk with emotion. And one forbidden four-letter word. So intoxicated, I can’t think straight or question what I’m doing. I just cling to him. Like a song of love. Finally, I lift my head, and look up at him, my bleary eyes searching for answers. His impassioned gaze holds me captive. My already racing pulse accelerates.

“Brandon—” I don’t know what words will spill out of my mouth next, if any at all. It doesn’t matter. Because on my next heartbeat, he fists my hair and tugs back my head. Before I can take another breath, his lips come crashing down on mine like a meteor. Still humming, he sucks and gnaws my hungry mouth. White-hot balls of passion explode inside me, showering me with fireworks from my head to my toes. I moan into his mouth and then I part my lips, allowing his tongue to find mine. Entwined, our tongues dance sensuously, swirling and twirling to the music and lyrics. Oh my God. This kiss! This incredible kiss! I cup his strong, stubbled jaw, deepening, and extending it, as he draws me closer, one hand gripping my ass. The song drifts into my ears like a magic carpet. The sparks now blind me. I squeeze my eyes shut. Yet, he’s all I see. Never before has anyone been so unforgettable in every way. After what seems like an eternity, the timeless song ends, and he gently breaks his lips away. My heavy eyelids rise like theater curtains, and our glazed eyes lock in a passionate exchange. Shouts of “bravo” from patrons and bystanders reverberate in my ears. I feel myself flush with embarrassment, but Brandon’s dimpled smile fills me with a rush of lust and desire as he holds me tight in his arms.

Tears flow from my eyes. Everything’s been so perfect. The setting. The meal. Our dance. Our kiss. But something is so wrong with this picture. A blaring ambulance races by. The sound of the siren startles me back to my senses, out of my drunken stupor. Brandon’s name burns on my heart. Remorse singes my brain. I want to rip that dazzling smile off his face. What the hell is he doing? What the hell am I doing? He belongs to another. As reality sets in, so does a bitter mix of panic and regret.

Oblivious, Brandon kisses my tears away and then breathes against my neck. “Baby, let’s make this night unforgettable.”

When we got inside, the blaring hip hop music was only coming from one corner of the house. Kelsey’s corner.

I waved the guys off, signaling that I would take care of the problem. As I got closer, I could make out the lyrics, “Drunk in loveee. We be all night! Loveee. Loveee. We be all night!”

Chuckling to myself on her choice of song, I knocked on the door. Waited a few seconds, nothing. This time I banged my entire fist in an effort to rattle the wood on its hinges. Still nothing.

“Roo…” I opened her door, letting myself in, and stopped dead at the sight in front of me. Kelsey was in the middle of the room, her hair piled on the top of her head like some fiery tornado, a glass filled to the brim with red wine in her hand. And she was dancing like a mad woman.

She donned a white tank top that exposed the sides of her breasts and entirely-too-large grey sweatpants that pooled over her feet, making her look like a dwarf. She was utterly adorable and fucking mouthwateringly sexy.

At the creek of the door she turned, her naturally red lips splitting in a megawatt smile.

“Hi!”

I could tell from her dancing and the slight blush of her cheeks that she was tipsy. It made her even cuter.

“Hi yourself. What’re you doing there?” I couldn’t help her infectious smile from spreading across my face too.

She shook her hips wildly as the song changed to something faster. Pitbull maybe. But I was never good with music. “I had a long, hard day. Kickass, but fucking hard! So I’m dancing.”

Kelsey makes this more evident by raising the wine glass to her lips, taking a huge swig, and then raising it above her head and twirling in circles.

I drop my baseball bag on her floor and toe my sneakers off. Then I join her in the middle of the floor, and begin to move.

She gives a happy shout and moves closer to me, joining her free hand with mine and swinging both of our arms.

“I had my fingers up a zebra’s ass today. Well technically, it was a whole fist!” She announces this like it’s the most normal thing in the world while I pull quickly out of her grasp. Kelsey giggles at my repulsion.

“Oh my god, bro! Don’t worry I had gloves on. But I did have to juggle her placenta in there…”

“Kels, stop. I am going to throw up.”

She did that sexy little giggle again and raised the glass to her lips. As she took it away and swallowed, she then raised it to mine. I let her pour some into my mouth, watching her cinnamon eyes over the brim. I knew the instant desire sparked in them, and I could feel myself harden in the mesh shorts I wore.

Reaching up, I held the delicate stem in my fingers and pried it out of her hand. Setting it down on the desk, I began to stalk toward her like she was the meal and I was ravenous.
