EXCERPT TOUR ~ Whimper by Erin McFadden

Despite sweltering heat, Saturday night is in full swing at the local campus bars and cafes. Thumping techno bass competes against raucous voices and laughter until screams suddenly shatter the party atmosphere. A half-naked man charges through the crowd, savaging his peers. Zoe Clark witnesses the bloody attack and the unnatural behavior of the assailant and knows something horrible is happening in her quiet college town. Zoe opens her home and her heart to a mysterious newcomer who claims to have an explanation for the grisly attacks. Elliott Carter needs any help he can find as he struggles to discover a cure for the virus that can turn ordinary students into mindless, violent attackers. Attraction and dedication collide as the two are drawn into a high stakes race against a government gone awry and a menace invisible to the naked eye. As they fight to stop the spread of the deadly microbe, secrets and bloodshed threaten to destroy any hope they might hold for a happily ever after. When the world teeters on the brink of a deadly pandemic, how much will they sacrifice to save it?

“You can only catch the virus through blood to blood contact, right?” Zoe asked, kind of out of the blue. “Not through saliva or anything like that?”
“Yeah, it has to be direct blood to blood transmission. Now, if two people both had bleeding cuts or sores in their mouths or something like that then it could pass along with the saliva but…” My oh-so-sexy description was cut short when Zoe pressed her lips to mine, wrapping her arms around my neck.
Oh God, this was going to complicate things so much, but I didn’t give a damn. It felt too good, too right. I groaned, losing myself in the kiss as I tangled a fist in Zoe’s hair, pulling her closer and trapping her between my body and the air mattress. We kissed hungrily, passion with a generous dash of desperation mixed in. When her hands slid under my shirt and traveled over my back and chest, I took it as an invitation to do the same. I rolled slightly to the side, pulling her with me so that I could reach the clasp of her bra strap under the soft dress that had already hiked up past her waist. Sighing with fascination, I ran my thumb over the silky smoothness of her breast and moved to kiss her lips again. She arched under me, and our mouths crashed together awkwardly, teeth clicking before we found the right rhythm. Zoe giggled, and then gasped when we both heard the front door open upstairs.
“Guess this will have to be postponed,” she sighed, swiping at her mouth with the back of her hand and attempting to rearrange her dress. Something about her hand caught my attention, and I reached out for her wrist as she struggled to re-latch her bra. A very slight red smear marred her pale skin, and all at once my nausea returned. With shaking hands, I touched my own lips to see if I was bleeding. Zoe blanched when she realized what was on her hand, touching her own face in concern.
“It’s mine! It’s not yours! It’s not your blood. I just nicked my lip a little on my tooth. I didn’t even notice it. It’s okay, Elliott!” she exclaimed, touching my face and shoulders, trying to draw a reaction from me. I’d gone blank, too focused on the maelstrom of thoughts and emotions raging inside my own skull to even respond to her. Slowly, I backed away and retreated to the freezer. My body temp hadn’t even started climbing, I simply needed space. I had to get…away. I had to get away from all of this.

I sat inside the freezer, not bothering to turn on a light. Zoe was the only thing that made me feel alive while I was busy dying. But humans are so damn fragile. What if I was the next to bleed? What if I killed her right along with the rest of the world? Surely that would send me straight to a special spot in hell. God damn it! As if I wasn’t in a special hell already.

excerpt 2

“Chicken fight!”

Becca wasted no time getting to her feet. “That would be my cue to exit. The annual chicken fight is definitely not my scene.” She strode toward the locker rooms, leaving Taylor to face the music.

She turned a wide-eyed gaze toward the rest of the party, which was rapidly dividing itself by groups of two. Even the teenagers. Her stomach started to churn, faster and faster, like a merry-go-round gaining speed.

She stayed put, sort of an “if I’m very still, no one will notice me” move. After all, no one had so far. But she should have known her luck would run out.

Not two minutes later Michael detached himself from the group and swam in her direction. Oh, that hot dog had been a mistake. She just might puke in the pool.

No. No no no. Please don’t make me do this. The last thing she wanted was for Michael Korvello to try to lift her. She could just imagine the stoic grunt as he realized just how much she weighed. Not to mention having to do it in front of a handful of women shaped like twigs. With boobs, of course.

His head lifted above the water with slick grace, the wetness somehow deepening the smoky blue of his eyes. “I need a partner, Taylor.”

She swallowed hard. “No, thanks.”

“Come on. You wouldn’t leave me hangin’, would ya?”

Her expression must have showcased some of her “you bet I would, mister” sentimentality, because the laughter in his ramped up. “Come on. Just a friendly game of chicken.” His emphasis on the word notated his challenge.

Just like he challenged her every day. Drawing her out, coaxing her to take the leap. But this time she had fear of taking her towel off in front of thirty-some-odd people on her side.

“Not happening.” She shook her head to drive her point home.

Above the slosh of people in the pool, a voice suddenly rang out. “I thought you said she was a cool nanny?”

A quick glance revealed the teens looking her way, and not a single soul left out of the pool, except one woman wrangling two toddlers.

And her.

So much for outgrowing peer pressure. Her “okay” got everyone back to their preparations and their eyes off her, thank God. But not Michael’s.

He watched with a raised brow as she stood next to her lounger. Her legs shook with the desire to run back to the locker rooms and hide. How could she possibly do this? But some teeny-tiny spark inside insisted she could ramp up that sexy glint in his eyes.

Fake it till you make it.

Sucking in her stomach, she let the towel drop to reveal her new swimsuit. His gaze traveled down the teal one-piece with interest, lingering where it dipped low over her cleavage. Turning, she draped her towel over her lounger. A totally unnecessary maneuver, but his quick intake of breath told her he’d seen the heart-shaped cutout right over the dimples at the small of her back.

Did he like them?

Remembering when those dimples had been the subject of ridicule rather than an intimate secret between lovers, she approached Michael with a touch of caution. When she was within a few steps of him, he breathed, “Damn, woman.”

Ah, victory.

A few deep breaths got her through the indignity of climbing onto Michael’s muscled shoulders. Thankfully he didn’t moan or stumble over her weight. The only thing that eased her self-consciousness was the feel of his wet skin against hers. His hands warming as they curled around her thighs. The flex of his arms as he balanced her securely.

Oh, she was so going to hell for her thoughts.

Luckily no one else seemed to be paying her any attention as one of the men yelled, “Ready. Set. Go!”

excerpt 2

“You’re far too concerned about things outside of yourself—you can’t turn your brain off and simply focus on the pleasure.” Pleasure he desperately wanted to give her.

Tears welling into her eyes told him he was on track, even if her mouth wouldn’t admit it. He held up the blindfold once more.

“Which is why I need to teach you to shut all that shit out. To concentrate on how good you feel, not what I want from you. Not how you look.”

She started, obviously surprised by his insight. Oh yeah, he’d known about her obsession with her looks for years. He wasn’t going to let that get in his way either. He brushed the length of material along her jawline.

“Let me do this, Becca. For you.” For me.

Those oh too vulnerable eyes closed once more, her chin tilting up in surrender. This close he could see her hard swallow as she awaited his next move, the pulse at the base of her neck picking up speed. The beauty of her in that position took his breath away. If he could get his hands on Rockin’ Reno, he’d break every bone in his sleazy little body.

Way past time for Becca to find out what it was like to be with a man who put her needs before his own.

excerpt 2

Meghan rolled over, squinting open gritty eyelids to peak at the clock on the bedside table. After arriving at the hotel from the concert arena, she’d lain on the bed for just a few minutes and must have drifted off. All the lights in the room were still on, and her suitcase lay open on the bedspread beside her.

Only an hour had passed.

The slightly grungy feeling from her long flight had multiplied while she slept, reminding her that she’d planned to take a shower. Actually she was more of a bath girl, but she didn’t want to risk drowning if she fell asleep again.

She made it quick, once she figured out how to work the faucet in the shower. The shock of cold water before the hot woke her up slightly, but she knew her body. One steamy shower, pjs, and a warm bed—she’d be out like a light. She could deal with Sean’s anger in the morning.

He’d been none too happy with her when they got to the hotel. She’d ignored him, much as she would a child having a tantrum, while she checked in and got her key. Her southern starch had been evaporating under her exhaustion. Dueling wits with Sean took brain power, and she needed sleep for that to rejuvenate. Instead she’d made her way to her room.

It wasn’t until they reached her door that she’d turned to him for the polite good night. Instead of anger, his face had held a strangely intent expression. Thrills had traveled down along her nerves, though she’d tried to ignore them.

But she couldn’t ignore the way her heart had stopped as he’d reached out to finger a big, fluffy curl in her thick hair. “It really is good to be meeting you, Meghan.” His husky voice sent her into yet another tailspin, until all she could do was mumble as she escaped into her room.

Do not fall for that rock star charisma, she firmly reminded herself. Teasing was one thing. Falling in love with her boss would be an epic mistake. As for falling in lust—it was way too late to stop that.

Now her arms were almost too heavy to drag her oversize T-shirt on, so she settled for that and a pair of panties. Hopefully the hotel wouldn’t catch fire while she was asleep. Having to run around outside without a bra would be embarrassing beyond measure.

She walked back into the bedroom and stared at her suitcase. Man, her body felt like lead. Pulling the luggage off the bed was just too much trouble right now. Maybe she could curl back in around it like she had earlier?

“Need a hand with that?”

If she’d needed proof of her girlhood, her squeal ringing off the walls would have been it. Fatigue clouded her every sense, so she’d missed Sean, who seemed to have taken up residence in the chair in the corner of her room. “What are you doing here?” she demanded in a deliberate bass, pressing her hand to her now racing heart.

“Enjoying the view?”

“Does this room look like a tourist attraction to you?”

“It’s some kind of attraction, at least.”

The fun house, maybe. Luckily she kept that to herself as her heart rate dropped closer to normal. Not that it was ever completely normal around Sean. Over the phone or in person, he revved every engine she had.

His gaze returned to her bare legs, causing her to tug down the hem of her oversize T. Just a look should not turn her on. “What do you want?” she asked around clenched teeth.

“I want my assistant to assist me.”

“Can’t it wait until morning?” Or at least until I’m dressed?

“It cannot. You’ll be sleeping when we get there.”

Uh-oh. She looked wistfully at her bed. “Where?”

“Rosslair House. You wanted me to go. We’ll be leaving in a few minutes.”

“But I just got here.” Was that a whine in her voice? Not pretty, Meghan. Not that he would possibly care.

“Too bad,” he said. “You got me into this. You can go along for the ride.”

excerpt 2

“Smart ass.”

Yes, she got that honestly too. She found smart ass answers worked a great deal better than raging at Jake. When she got angry, he simply dug in his heels from here to eternity.

As much as she wanted her freedom, they both understood all too well his deep-seated need to protect her.

Moving in close, she hugged him. With his arm around her shoulders, his surrounding warmth brought the same sense of security it always had. Only she couldn’t live like that forever.

“Let’s save the protection for something major, okay?” Her voice dropped to a sad whisper. “I’m smothering, Jake.”

He squeezed her tighter. “I don’t know if I can stop. Even now. Especially now.”

He rubbed the back of his hand over her cheek. “Every time I try I just see the bruises and my heart stops beating for a minute…I’ll never forgive myself for leaving you behind.”

Covering his hand with her own, she pressed his palm closer. “I know.”

Sometimes she could still feel the impact of flesh against flesh and wondered all over again if she’d be alive right now if her brother hadn’t come home that day. She stepped back, shaking off the memories. “But brother dear, I’ll never find an overprotective husband to let you off the hook with you hovering.”

Jake’s grin said he too appreciated the banter instead of yet another argument. “We could look into an arranged marriage.”

“No, no, and no,” Sara said, lifting her hands as if to ward him off. She could just imagine the pipsqueak her brother would pick so he could go right on controlling her.

“What’s wrong?” he asked. “Actually, it’s not a bad idea. How else will I know I can trust the guy?”

Heavy steps sounded from behind her before a deep rolling voice filled the space. “What about me?”

Sara whirled around on the pavement, staring at Nate Bishop in shocked silence, but his body appeared perfectly at ease-though the look from under the black brim of his cowboy hat was as intense as always. Same as always, as if he were hiding something he didn’t want the world to see too well.

“I can drive her home, if you want,” he said, shifting a little in his cowboy boots.

Love Hate Relationship

synopsis

People say that sometimes the line between love and hate is thin. What they don’t tell you is that sometimes it’s invisible.

Rowan Locklaine gave his heart to one woman a long time ago and has no desire to go through that kind of torture ever again. His painful past has turned him cold and heartless. Women serve only one purpose as far as he’s concerned, and relationships are nothing but a waste of time and energy. When the mouthy little blonde, Navie Collins, is hired as his personal assistant, he finds his world turned upside down. And against his better judgment, he can’t seem to stop thinking about her.

Navie Collins has spent years convinced she’s not good enough, that no one could possibly want her. Growing up the way she did helped to thicken her skin, so when she walks into a job interview and meets the temperamental, foul-mouthed, best-selling author Rowan Locklaine, she’s all too happy to put him in his place.

Rowan and Navie are convinced they hate each other. But as time passes and the attraction between them begins to grow, these two stubborn, strong-willed people have a life changing decision to make. excerpt

“Hello?”

“I need you over here right now.”

Temporarily stunned, I stood frozen in place until realization hit me. “Rowan?”

“Who else could it possibly be?” he asked in a detached, insulting tone that instantly got my hackles up.

“People call me!” I insisted childishly. I hated how my maturity nosedived whenever it came to my boss.

“If you say so. I need you to get over here ASAP.”

There was a strong possibility I let out a rather indelicate snort at his typical assholery. “Since you asked so nicely, I’ll be right there!” I answered, my voice heavy with sarcasm.

“Do you always have to be so damn difficult?” he grunted

“Do you always have to be such a raging hemorrhoid?” I fired back. I would have sworn I heard him choke on a laugh if I thought the man was capable of laughter. Rowan Locklaine was more likely to suck the souls from small children than to laugh.

“Did you really just call me a raging hemorrhoid?”

Was that humor in his voice? Couldn’t be. The Devil doesn’t have a sense of humor.

“If the shoe fits…or in your case, whatever Satan wears on his feet. It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday night, Rowan. Have your latest conquest run whatever bullshit errand you need taken care of. I’m off the clock and not required to be nice to you.”

“This is you being nice?” he asked indignantly, causing me to roll my eyes.

“Hanging up now.”

“Wait, wait, wait!” he hollered through the phone line just as I was about to disconnect. Reluctantly, I held the phone back up to my ear. “Look.” He huffed out a loud breath. “I’m…I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to insult you…Navie? You still there?” he asked when I remained silent for several seconds after his apology.

“The world is coming to an end, isn’t it? It’s the zombie apocalypse. I’m not prepared! I haven’t taken any crossbow lessons yet!”

“You’re friggin’ hilarious,” he deadpanned.

I didn’t bother to stifle my laughter. “I like to think so.”

I listened as he inhaled deeply. “Please, I really need your help. I know it’s your day off, but it’s an emergency. I’ll even make sure Lauren pays you time and a half. Can you just please get here as fast as you can?”

“Rowan.” I sighed in exasperation. “It’s at least a twenty-minute train ride to your place. It’s not like I can just snap my fingers and make myself appear on your doorstep. You’re on the Upper East Side and I’m in Murray Hill.”

“I’ll pay for a cab.”

“Fine,” I grumbled dramatically. “But I’m not changing out of my comfy clothes. And I want double-time, not time and a half.”

“Okay, okay. Whatever you want. Just get here.”

At the unease in his voice, I began to worry a little about what was so important that I had to rush over to his apartment on a Saturday night. Not wanting to hesitate in the event it was something major, I slipped on a pair of bright pink flip-flops, pulled a gray hoodie on over my ‘That’s what she said’ t-shirt, and headed for the door. The only change I was willing to make before walking out the door was trading in my yellow rubber ducky pajama pants for a pair of plain black leggings.

By the time my cab pulled up in front of Rowan’s building, he was already standing out front waiting for me. As I stepped out onto the sidewalk, he leaned in and paid the driver before rising to his full height and turning my way. His hair was standing on ends, as if he’d been running his hands through it anxiously, and I couldn’t help but notice how amazing his body looked in just a plain white tee and another pair of athletic shorts. Man, it really was a crying shame he was such a mega-douche. Women around the world would line up just for a chance to stare at him uninterrupted for five minutes.

“Navie,” Rowan’s rumbly voice called out, shaking me back into reality. When my vision came back into focus, I noticed Rowan was standing much closer than he had been just a second before. When had that happened?

“Huh?”

“I asked if you were coming.” His typically chilly blue gaze warmed just a bit as a cocky smirk spread over his lips. “You were just checking me out, weren’t you?”

Oh, hell, I thought with a huge roll of my eyes.

“You were, admit it. You didn’t hear what I was saying because you were too busy checking me out. It’s okay, everyone does it.”

“And then your mouth opens and the fantasy’s ruined,” I responded dryly with a roll of my eyes as I shoved past him. “Let’s get this over with. Too long in your presence and the desire to cause bodily harm becomes too overwhelming to ignore.”

“You know,” he started as we stepped into the elevator leading up to his floor. “I had no idea you were so…feisty. Gotta say, I’m pleasantly surprised.”

“Oh, goody. My purpose in life has been accomplished. I can die happy now.”

Luckily, the doors chose to open at that moment, saving me from whatever smartass comment Rowan had in return.

Love Hate Relationship Teaser #3

about the author

JessicaPrince

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

Excerpt

“Fuck,” he groans before he slides his fingers inside of me.

I want to say that woke me up, that I’m no longer in some lust-filled haze where I’m allowing a total stranger, an escaped criminal who is holding me hostage, to finger fuck me out in the open after just having spanked me. I would love to say that. I can’t. My head goes down and I groan at the feel of him sliding his fingers inside of me and stretching my walls.  I haven’t been with a man in well over a year and just his fingers are tight, but it brings back memories of skin against skin, hot breath on my body, being filled by another person and being close to someone. They are all things that I’ve missed in the past year and none of those things my vibrator can bring me. Still, I shouldn’t be finding any of those things with Max.  I should stop this before it goes any further, but I don’t get the chance. His fingers slide out of me and then his hand cups my pussy as he bends down to whisper in my ear.

“For however long this lasts, you will listen to what I say and obey me,” his harsh voice rumbles in my ear and it should scare me. It should infuriate me. Why do I feel the urge to do everything he tells me?

“Enough with all this chit-chat, Grant, come fuck me,” I say as I pull him into the room.

“Always, my Bossy Girl!” He does as he’s told, and he does it quick. He doesn’t remove a shred of my clothing. Picking me up swiftly, he lays me across the bed and heads back to the door to lock it. Walking back from the door, he unzips his pants. Once he reaches me, he turns me over and pushes my shoulders down on the bed.

He enters me with force and pounds quickly. It feels so sexy for him to be so dominant. It takes him a moment to regain control of himself to give me steady thrusts. I am now able to rock back and forth on my knees to meet him. My skirt is pushed up high on my waist, with my breasts spilling out of my corset. Grant’s hands are firm on my hips pulling me back and forth. I love when he pulls all the way out letting me feel his entire length.

Slowing his motions, I feel his cock grow larger. I feel the walls of my pussy contract onto him as my orgasm comes over me in a pulsating wave. It literally starts in my toes and moves through my entire body all the way up to my head. He slows down just enough to let me catch my breath, but does not stop thrusting , making it that much better.

After passionately rolling around in the bed for a few minutes, I’m able to get on top of him, and I brace my arms on the headboard behind his head. His green eyes stare up at me. Using the headboard for support, I ride him with force and depth. I am so wet, my slickness allows my clit to rub on his pelvis. I feel my orgasm coming again so soon, and I want Grant to come with me. “Do you like my soaking wet pussy on you? Do you want me to fuck you harder?” He gets so turned on by dirty talk, and right on cue, we both come together with fireworks. I ride him slowly until I no longer feel him pulsating inside of me. I collapse on top of him as he wraps his arms around me, flipping us over and devouring me in kisses.

“That has never happened to me before,” I whisper. “What are you doing to me, Jackson?” I grin up at him.

“About to make love to you,” he says, pulling the belt around my waist releasing my dress. It slides down my newly shaven legs pooling at my feet. “If that is a new feeling to you, I have a lot of catching up to do, babe.”

You will have to wait your turn for show and tell, handsome.” Dropping to my knees, I pull the string on his pants releasing them to find their place in a pool across from my dress. My eyes have to be as big as saucers right now. First of all, he is commando, yep, nothing under those sexy pants of his but his pure hot muscles of steel. Secondly and most importantly, I’m taken by his size. He’s a very large man standing at 6’3” with the most beautiful penis I have ever seen. I know, ladies, they’re not really pretty, but you haven’t seen this one. It’s long and thick with a perfectly round head. I stare at it in amazement watching it jerk under my gaze.

“You’re killing me up here. Snap out of the daydream, darling.”

I look up at him from under my eyelashes slowly taking him into my mouth and placing one hand at his shaft not sure I’ll be able to take all of him. But I’m sure as hell going to try. I hear him groan as I open a little wider to let him go deeper working his shaft with my other hand. I slowly pull away licking his slit gently while massaging his balls.

“Fuck, Sunny, you have to slow down or I’m gonna lose my shit here.”

I ignore his plea taking him in again and sucking hard while pulling away. The sense of power I feel right now is so exhilarating, I feel the wetness increasing. When I feel his balls tighten, I know I’m almost home free. But before I take him down again, his large arms are under mine pulling me into his. I wrap my legs around his waist pressing my heels into his firm ass while he walks to the sofa.

“I can’t wait another damn minute, Sunny, I need to be inside of you like yesterday.”

“Then what are you waiting for? Jackson, I’m so wet for you.”

Donovan Miller braced his arms on the side of the pool as he pushed himself out of the water. His limbs trembled slightly from exertion. He reached for his towel and caught sight of the swimmer a few lanes away. She was tiny. Her body moved smoothly through the water, mesmerizing him as she rotated back and forth. He could tell she was an experienced swimmer by the consistency in her strokes. As he toweled off, he admired the curves of her body. Alarm bells rang in his head when he realized she was rapidly approaching the wall and showed no sign of slowing.

“Hey! Hey! Watch out!” he shouted as he ran toward her lane, hoping desperately to intercept her.

With a dim thud, her head hit the side of the pool. He watched as her eyes rolled back and she sank under the water.

“Shit! Shit!”

Jumping into the swimmer’s lane, he pulled her to the surface, attempting to immobilize her neck as much as possible. He assessed her pulse and checked to make sure her airway wasn’t compromised.

“Call an ambulance,” he barked at the dumbstruck lifeguards headed in their direction.

She floated in his arms, eyes closed, bleeding. He took a moment to feel thankful he’d seen the effects of blood mixed with water before. Even a small amount of blood can look like a murder scene when water is added. He held her while they waited for the ambulance. He stroked her hair and checked her pulse again, disconcerted by the feeling of her soft skin under his fingers. Her eyes fluttered open, affording him a concerned glance before she winced in pain.

“What happened?” Her voice was thin and raspy.

“Shh, don’t try to move, sweetheart. You slammed into that wall pretty hard.”

“I . . . mmm . . . lost my count.”

“It’s gonna be okay.”

She frowned, eyebrows pulling together. “Can I get up now?”

“There’s an ambulance on the way. They’ll be here in a minute. We need to wait to move you. I want to get you on a spine board and in a neck brace.” He smiled and locked eyes with her. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”

“Valerie. Valerie Peters.” Her face pulled into an adorable frown again. “Don’t call me sweetheart. I don’t even know you.”

Author Bio

Kim Loraine is the author of the “Golden Beach” series, including “Restoration” (2015) and “Renovation” (2015). She started writing at a young age, scribbling down song lyrics, short stories, and poems she was too afraid to share with anyone. Busy working as a music teacher in her Pacific Northwest hometown, it wasn’t until her family of four picked up everything and moved to beautiful Japan that she decided to finally take the plunge and send her characters out into the world.

The central theme in Kim’s books is self-discovery, whether that is found through taking risks, breaking down walls, or admitting mistakes. Kim likes to write characters that seem like someone you actually know, who find that life is a journey not without its challenges.

When not writing Kim spends her time with her husband, chasing around their crazy kids, exploring Japan, and binge-watching Doctor Who on Netflix.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Behind the Computer by FL Jacob

RELEASE DAY

BARNES & NOBLE: Coming Soon!

SYNOPSIS:

I’m Sawyer James, best-selling indie author.  There have been so many rumors going around about my model, Caleb Allen, and I that I can’t see straight.  So, instead of sitting back on my hands like I’m told I need to do, let it blow over, and kill everyone with kindness, I’m going to do what I do best, I’m going to write a book about our relationship.
So here it is, our story.  The real story.
Now if you have anything to talk about, you can shove it because this is the truth.
This is the story from behind the computer.

TEASER:
I straighten up and look at him; he’s come from the party. He has on a black suit with a crisp white shirt and ironically a green tie.

“We match.” I try to smile.

He wipes the tears away from under my eyes and holds my face in his hands. “I picked it to match your eyes. I was hoping you would be there.”

“I’ve missed you,” I admit feeling relieved he hasn’t completely given up on me.

“You have no idea how much I’ve missed you.” He wipes a few more stray tears. I laugh a little, and he smiles. “There’s that smile I love so much. I was watching you all day. You didn’t look at me once.”

“It was so hard.”

“That’s what she said.” He winks, and I let out a real laugh this time.

I am a mommy of two, wife to an amazing man, and full-time employee. Life is crazy and busy! I started writing again during a darker time in my life in a group write in a Facebook group. They brought back my passion for writing that I haven’t felt since high school and helped me through hard times.

Starting this process was tedious and nerve-wracking, but my amazing ladies and my fabulous husband have inspired me to take my love for writing to the next step.

My current books are Have I Told You, I Won’t Give Up on You, A Very Merry Black Hollywood Christmas, and Give Me All of You, all part of the Black Hollywood Series.

Behind the Computer is a new standalone that is not part of the BH series.  It’s a step outside of my comfort zone, but the story hit me like a ton of bricks so I went with it.

Coming 2016, One in a Million. New Characters, New story, Standalone! More information coming soon.

RELEASE BLAST ~ Saving Casey by Liza O’Connor

Saving Casey
 Liza O’Connor

GENRE: Contemporary Suspense
SERIES: Book 1 of the Requires Rescue Series

When 80 year old Cass Goldman learns she has inoperable cancer, she decides to end her life, peacefully on her terms. So imagine her horror when she wakes to find herself in a hospital with strange rich people staring at her. It’s not until the doctor arrives to examine her that she realizes she’s no longer old. She’s in the body of a seventeen year old teen named Casey.

Unfortunately, her new body comes with some serious baggage. First of all, the kid has burned every bridge imaginable. Secondly, those ‘people’ in her room are her outrageously rich parents and while the Dad seems friendly, the mother wants nothing to do with her. The moment they take her home to a horrifically huge mansion, which she dubs Tara, she’s abandoned to the care of the butler.

While Cass is determined to turn this train wreck of a life around, doing so is far harder than she expected. In fact, without help, she’ll end up dead just like the last occupant of this body. Thankfully, her dad has his hunky head of security become her body guard. Between her eighty years of life lessons and hunky Troy’s help, she just might live long enough not to be jail bait.

Cass woke to steady beeping.

The last thing she remembered was Jess licking her face….

Oh God, had something gone wrong? Had her attempt at suicide only succeeded in killing her sweet dog?

She opened her eyes and stared at a couple resting in chairs at the foot of her bed. The well-dressed, haggard man looked to be in his forties, his head tilted to the side as if sleeping. Beside him sat a pale, well-coifed woman with tight thin lips, possibly in her late thirties, staring out the window.

Who the hell were these people? Suicide watchers?

In the woman’s lap rested a Louis Vuitton purse.

Rich suicide watchers? Ridiculous! Never in all her years of creeping about hospitals, watching all her friends die off one by one, had she seen a socialite volunteer. And who would volunteer to suicide watch an old person dying of cancer anyway? Surely, they’d have better things to do.

The man woke and gasped as he noticed her. “Casey?” He rushed to her bedside, covering her face with kisses. She pushed him away, ready to yell for help, but when he stepped back, he looked so hurt by her actions that she remained mute.

What the hell is going on here?

The woman stared at her from her chair, saying nothing.

Pulling his chair to the bed, the man sat and pressed his cheek to her hand. “Oh, kitten, we thought we’d lost you.” Tears welled in his eyes. He seemed most distressed.

Cass struggled to make sense of words.

He’d called her Casey when he first woke. Was it possible he knew her? God knows my memory can’t hold crap these days.

But he’d also called her “kitten,” and her nickname had never ever been kitten. This guy had the wrong old woman!

What the hell happened? How could they have possibly screwed up my identity? They clearly rescued me from my home.

The man stood, stroking her cheek with sincere affection. “I’ll be right back. I need to let Leonard know you’ve wakened.” Then he rushed from the room.

Why can’t I remember this man? She tried to recall what her nephew looked like. No…this fellow looked around forty-five. Her nephew would be in his late sixties now. Did her nephew have a son she’d forgotten?

Soon her mystery fellow returned with a doctor of a reasonable age.

The socialite woman stood upon the arrival of the doctor, smiled faintly, and extended her limp hand, which he cherished as if she were royalty.

Who the hell are these people?

The doctor finally stopped worshipping the woman and helped Cass sit up. He put his cold stethoscope on her back. “Take a deep breath.”

She did, and discovered she’d acquired serious lung power. Evidently, consuming a large quantity of painkillers and exhaust fumes could regenerate old lungs.

He placed her right hand in his. “Squeeze my hand as hard as you can.”

She stared at the plump pink hand he held. That was not her old bony hand with blue veins shining through paper-thin skin. She followed the hand up to a plump arm. Holy shit! I’m in a young person’s body! How’d that happen?

Liza O’Connor is a nut.

Not a real nut, but she is prone to being a smart ass at times, and not surprisingly her heroines say odd and inappropriate things in her book, as well. So even in a suspense novel you can expect to laugh along the way. That’s because Liza loves to see humor in the crazy world around her.

Saving Casey was actually the first book Liza published. Having recently reclaimed her rights to the book, she is happily re-publishing it as her 18th book. And because her books sell better when in a series, she using Saving Casey to kick of a new series called Requires Rescue. It will be different from her other series where the same characters show up in each book. This series will be about strong women who are trying to go it alone, only when help is offered, they have the good sense to accept the helping hand, because in all of our lives, there will come a time you need someone else to help you. Being strong doesn’t make us invincible. Book 1 is Casey/Cass’ story. Book 2 will be about an entirely different young woman who desperately needs help before she’s murdered on the streets of NYC. Book 3, well the plot is super unique, and more books will follow.

You’ll be able to read the series in any order you want, but in each case, you’ll have a strong young woman, a guy stepping up to help when no one else does, and danger galore with humor stuffed in anywhere I can.

I hope you’ll come along with me so you can laugh, love, and get revenge.

….“How can I repay you for helping me with my problem?” Cindi asked.

Sometimes luck just fell into one’s lap, like now. He needed a date, and she would understand things wouldn’t go any further than a friendly evening. “Have dinner with me.”

“I’d love to. What night did you have in mind?” she quickly asked.

Preston heard the eagerness in her voice, and tried to let her down gently. “I’d better explain. My sister Jennifer is coming to Laurel Heights to interview for the directorship of the new community center. I’d like you to join us for dinner.”

Her fluttering heart slowed from disappointment. She should have known the invitation was too good to be true. “When was the last time you saw your sister?”

“A year ago, when I went home to visit my parents in Oregon for their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary.

“Wouldn’t you rather meet with her alone?”

“Not really.” Stop stalling. Tell her the real reason you are inviting her to dinner. “I better explain. My parents and sister are worried that I am no longer interested in women. Jennifer actually came out and asked if I was gay. I’d like to introduce you as my girlfriend and give her the impression we are lovers.”

His words exploded in her brain. Girlfriend! Lover! Is he out of his mind? “Now, what were you saying about giving your sister the impression we are lovers?” Cindi surprised herself by not getting tongue tied over the word “lover.”

“There isn’t any other woman I could trust to pull this off. You are a good friend and won’t get the wrong idea if I start putting the moves on you in public. I just want to be up-front.”

She jammed her hands on her hips at the insult. “So I’m just a good ole boy—I mean, girl—you need to pass off as your lover just to prove you aren’t into guys!”

“I didn’t mean it quite that way. You are a beautiful, warm, sensitive woman any man would be lucky to call his girlfriend or lover.”

“Just so I understand your deceitful, half-ass invitation. If you get touchy-feely and plant a few kisses during dinner, I should react like it’s perfectly normal since we’re lovers. It would all be for show.”

“Absolutely.”

Cindi tipped her head to the side and decided to toss out a challenge. “You know, it works both ways. I might want to take a few liberties, you know, to make our relationship more convincing. Like you said, it would all be for show.”

“No problem. I’ll do my part.” Maybe this wasn’t a good idea, he thought, but it was too late now to take back his invitation.

“Have you considered what might happen if your sister gets the job and comes to live in Laurel Heights?”

“I’ll worry about that when and if it happens. We can always say things didn’t work out.”

Not if I can help it. Momma didn’t raise a dummy. She needed to give this situation a little more thought, but held out a hand. “We have a deal. You clean up my financial mess and I’ll pretend to be your lover.”

Preston wondered at the designing gleam in her eyes, but then decided it was just his imagination. He could trust sweet, sensible Cindi Pearl.

Trailer

Excerpt

Those bitches were gonna die.

That was a horrible thing to say about my so-called ‘friends’—and I used the word friends loosely, because true friends wouldn’t ditch you the day of your scheduled road trip because they’d rather be sunbathing in the Hamptons.

The fucking Hamptons.

Ew.

I mean, how clichéd could you get.

This was why I hated rich people.

It also sucked that I was one of those rich people.

Well, I wasn’t, but my dad was.

So by extension so was I.

When you grew up with a rock star for a dad, cameras and eyes followed you everywhere. It was exhausting.

I couldn’t just be Willow.

I was Willow Wade.

The daughter of the famous drummer Maddox Wade.

People expected greatness from me.

I just wanted to graduate college without slitting my wrists.
