EXCERPT

I pull up in my driveway looking over at the house.  What I see pisses me off.
Here she is in a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, hat and glasses pushing a brand new lawn mower.I make sure I check my temper before I walk over.
Right before I cross the street the little girl on the front porch stops me mid step.
She looks just like her mother, just a smaller version.  She is sitting on a plastic little table, that they probably just bought, coloring.I make my way over to her right when the lawn mower goes off
“I told you I would cut the grass.”  I try to sound casual, but the blood in me is boiling, it must be ninety-five degrees outside, and she’s wearing enough clothes for a trek across the frozen tundra.
She looks up “I also said I got it, and I would be doing it myself.” The little girl from the porch makes it to her mother and hides behind her, yanking on her pant leg.

The fearful look that she gives me is just like her mother’s.  I crouch down, getting eye-to-eye with her and say “Hey there, beautiful. What’s your name?” She doesn’t reply, and instead she lowers her gaze so she is looking at her feet. “I’m Jackson,” I reach out my hand, but drop it when I know she won’t take it.  I gesture behind me, as I say “I live in that house right over there.  I used to know
your great grandma.”  I’m trying to draw her into a conversation with me, but nothing I say engages her.

“It’s ok baby, you can tell him your name.  Nan used to make him cookies, so you know what that means, she must have really liked him.”  She rubs her daughters shoulder.

“I’m Lilah,” she says in barely a whisper.

“That is the most beautiful name in the whole wide world.  You’re lucky to have such a beautiful name.”  She smiles at me, right as a car back fires. She yells and puts her hands to her ears.

Two things happen at the same time, her mother grabs her and runs toward the house, and I vow to protect them.

“Wait,” I rush after them and make it right to the door before it’s closed in my face.  I stand there inside the house and watch them rushing to the corner and hide.

Two broken girls protecting each other against some monster of the outside world.  I walk up to them “It’s ok, it’s just a car, it was nothing but a car.”

“Lilah, baby it’s ok, it’s ok.  I’m here.  It’s ok baby girl, were safe.” She is trying to comfort the little girl who is sobbing quietly in her mother arms.  “No one is here baby.”

She looks over at me, our eyes meeting for one minute before she lowers them again.

“Look it’s ok, it’s just Jackson.  There is no one here, baby.”  She rocks Lilah back and forth. Her back against the wall while she soothes her baby girl whose sobs are slowly stopping, her eyes closing.

“What can I do?”  I’m now sitting in front of her not sure how to even start to dissect this.

“Nothing, you can’t do anything for us,” she kisses Lilah’s head. “No one can.”

I ignore that last part not sure how to talk about this now.

“I’m going to go outside and finish cutting the grass, then I’m going to go pick up some food for us.  Does she like pizza?”

“Jackson, I don’t know what relationship you had with my grandmother, but I don’t need your help.  We will be fine.  Please, it’s ok, you can leave.” She rests her head on the the wall closing her eyes, the defeat of the day leaving her body.

“I’m going to go outside and finish mowing the lawn so Lilah doesn’t have to go outside anymore today.  Then I’m going to pick up pizza for myself.  You won’t have time to cook, so I’m going to pick one up for you.  I want to eat with you guys, but I’m not pushing myself on you either after today. Now I don’t want to fight with you or even discuss this, so just nod that you understand?”

She looks into my eyes, but nods yes.

“I can pay you for the pizza?  I have money. I don’t need a hand out,” she says while trying to push herself up to go get fucking money.

If she weren’t so scared of things I would punch the fuck out of something right now.  “I don’t want your money, now or ever.  I have no doubt you can take care of yourself.  Consider this a housewarming present.” I get up going to the door not even giving her a chance to say anything else.

“She’s never had pizza before, so can you just get us plain cheese.”

I don’t say anything afraid of what will come out of my mouth.  I nod and walk out the door, closing it quietly so as not to wake Lilah.

I close my eyes exhaling the breath that I didn’t even realize I was holding.

“She’s barely holding on while fighting for her life. She has demons, they both do.  Whatever happened to them, it’s in there deep.  The both of them are so scared, you can practically see the fear coming off of them.”  I look over at Brenda who is on her porch watering her plants. “Tread lightly, Jackson, or better yet walk away if you aren’t going to do anything about it.”

I don’t have a chance to respond she walks into her house closing her front door softly, leaving me fighting my own demons.

A Bad Boy Mafia Romance
Author: Tia Lewis

Genre: Dark Hitman Romance

I’m a hard, ruthless, and brutal killer… but I’m not letting her go.

I’m the most feared man in South Boston. I’ve earned that title and the nickname “The Animal.” Women may think it’s because I’m wild in bed, and one night with me and they’d f*cking know it.

But there’s a darker reason for my reputation… I think nothing about ending a life. Feelings are a luxury I can’t afford.

Until her.

I hear Tess cry for help and I give into the urge to help her. One look at her and I knew I had to risk it all to rescue her. I’m no knight

in shining armor; I’m saving her so I can keep the sexy spitfire for myself.

But the mob wants her back. She wasn’t meant to live through that night.

No f*cking way I’m going to let that happen. Tess ignites a fire within me like nothing I’ve ever known. Her legs are meant to be wrapped around me, and only me. I’ll take on the whole Russian mob ―hell, the whole world―to keep the one woman who’s meant to belong to me.

I’ll kill every bastard that tries to take her away. She can try to run, but she’s not getting away from this hitman.
She’s my possession now.

We ate in silence, and she took the containers to the trash. When she returned, she bit her lip. It was a look I couldn’t read. I had no clue what she was trying to say. I just wanted to grab her luscious ass and see how she felt when I was deep inside of her. I didn’t care about any looks she would give me, unless she was on her back, legs in the air and looking wide-eyed up at me.

“So, Liam… let’s’ cut to the chase. Am I really your prisoner in this… dump?”

I wickedly laughed. “I think you know the answer to that.”

“I guess it’s official then?”

“Yeah. Besides, you don’t want to leave anyway.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Because if you go, you think you’ll come face to face with a ruthless Russian covered in prison tattoos, ready to finish what those bastards in the alley started. You have no choice but to stay with me. Like I said before, make yourself at home.”

She looked at the ground. The situation was clear. She was scared shitless of the Russians, and she wanted my protection. What wasn’t clear was why the Russians would have anything to do with some young woman. She didn’t give off the same type of vibe that most whores seem to have. She was also too feisty and didn’t have the dead eyes of being beaten down by life, or at least not yet. She was brave, too, or just plain stupid. You would have to be brave or stupid to run from the Russians like that. Whatever it came down to, it would mean work for me. It was always the same.

People always wanted something from a man like me, because I was willing to do the things that most people weren’t. I’d kill anyone if you paid me enough. However, I had one rule: no children. Maybe I was kidding himself, thinking my rule made me less than a monster.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, my mind kept dwelling on that hot body of hers. I’d love to have seen that ass bouncing on my cock as I pounded her deep from behind, one hand grabbing her hip, my other hand reaching around to her bouncing tits, pinching her nipples.

“It’s my bet you’ve made a big mess with the Russians,” I said. “A real big mess. So, I’m going to need you to tell me why they’re after somebody like you.”

She bit her lip and shook her head. “I can’t. I’m sorry,” she replied. “I don’t trust you yet.”

“Maybe you’re smarter than you look, then. Apart from that yet part. You should never trust me. Let me tell you that up front. Trust me, and you’ll be making a terrible mistake.”

“I don’t think you’re the monster you’re pretending to be. A monster wouldn’t have stopped when they heard my screams.”

“You’re wrong, Wendy,” I said, openly staring at her. “You just have to ask yourself what kind of monster would take a woman like you as my possession? I’m that kind.”

She looked away, crossing her legs and sighed.

Excerpt:

The room was steamy with dancing and pheromones. Harmony ordered a Bud Light and ran the icy bottle over her forehead.

A new song started up. Shaking off her melancholy, she strode right into the heart of the crowded dance floor. Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Road”—an easy line dance. She counted her way in and soon was stomping across the dance floor. The loud music pounded in her chest. Even though it had been years since she’d line danced, her body knew the steps without her thinking about them. The heartache receded a little.

More dancing. Maybe some shots. Maybe making out with a stranger. That’ll keep me from feeling…this. Whatever this ugly feeling is.

She danced solo for three more songs. Then an old-timer led her in a waltz. The country gentleman was followed by a baby-faced cowboy in a camo baseball cap. She danced three more songs with him and bid him goodbye with a hug and a kiss on the cheek—too young.

The DJ took the mike. “Next up, the cowboy cha-cha.”

A slower dance. Harmony fanned herself with her hand and thought this might be a good time to grab a shot of Fireball chased with another beer.

She turned to leave the dance floor when a big warm hand rested on her shoulder.

“Wait. Don’t go yet.”

She turned. In the dark, the new cowboy’s face was obscured in the shadow of his hat. The DJ cued up an old Bellamy Brothers song Harmony remembered her father loved. It began, “If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?” She knew the words as surely as she knew her own name.

The dancers around them paired off in a hurry and got into the sweetheart position. Everyone counted off together and started around the massive dance floor in a counter-clockwise direction, all in time.

Before Harmony could say anything, the stranger took her hands and spun her. His movements were sure and strong. He was an experienced dancer, not someone who had to be babysat around the floor.

“Been a long time, hasn’t it?” he said.

She stole sideways glances at him. Tall and muscular, he wore a black hat and a plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up. His forearms were thick and smooth. She could see that he had a strong jaw, a dark, short beard, and dark skin. He spoke crystal-clear English with a lilting Mexican accent.

“You don’t remember me, do you, Harmony?”

She stared.

A half-smile. “Guess I’m just another cowboy to you.”

For strangers, they moved in perfect rhythm. Harmony felt grateful that he was a strong lead since her brain was otherwise occupied with trying to figure out who he was. When he brought their bodies together, chest to chest, she looked up at him. His body gave off controlled strength and a smooth, unnerving calm. At last, she peeked under the shadow of his cowboy hat.

Dark brows. Bedroom eyes the color of whiskey.

No way. “Lucky?”

EXCERPT REVEAL ~ Black & White by Rachel Robinson

black_white_flowers_excerpt

Excerpt

He leans closer, his nose brushing the side of mine. His scent—the mouthwatering, fatally toxic scent of him—enters my body. I inhale deeply just as he blows out a breath.

“Difficult in that I don’t think I can hold out another second,” Smith says, his lips brushing mine on the last word. It would be the easiest thing in the world, to lean up and press my lips against his. I want him to want me as badly as I want him. The feelings are so intense I have to close my eyes to block out one sense.

“Don’t hold out,” I whisper. “You can’t hide forever.” When I feel his hands on the sides of my face, I open my eyes. “Smith,” I finish.

Instead of responding, he nods and rubs his thumb along my lower lip and ends by pulling it down to open my mouth.

I’m hyper aware of this moment. I know it’s when everything changes. The setting sun plays peekaboo through the trees next to us, and the sounds of the children’s shrill laughter lift on a slight breeze. Smith leans down and brushes his lips against mine back and forth. I taste his breath as mine mingles with his. My head, held still in his hands, is at his mercy. When I’m sure it’s going to happen, I wrap my hands around his waist and pull my body against his. The muscles he’s worked so hard to rehabilitate mold against me as if they were made to fit with mine.

“I’m going to kiss you,” he says. And then he does. Before I can respond. Before I can scream at the top of my lungs, Yes! Finally. Please. Kiss me and never stop. Our lips crash together in a hurried violence. It’s a large amount of pent-up sexual frustration culminating in our mouths colliding—becoming one. After all of our interviews, my mind wandering to his perfect moving lips I could only dream about tasting, I finally get them. His tongue seeks mine out as his hands tilt my head to the side to ease us into a better angle.

I clutch the back of his shirt, tugging him into me until I think I may be hurting him. He releases my head and picks me up, turns so his back is against the tree, and continues his assault from here. My legs wrap around his waist, and in the midst of this frenzied lust filled with stolen breaths and shared emotions, his erection pressing against me, I decide that Smith Eppington is the only person I want to kiss for the rest of my life.

He’s my morphine, the solitary reason my heart beats fast and slow in any single moment. I might as well be stringed like a puppet and marched into an arena naked. This is how I feel when he asserts his control—his dominance—over me. There are so many things I want to tell him, but neither of us wants to be the first to break away from this moment of pure bliss. I’ve never been kissed like I’m oxygen, like I’m the reason one lives, kissed like I alone can keep a heart pumping.

Close up shots of a broken glass

Blurb

Carina Painter lives a life she created in between the pages of her bestselling novel. At least, that’s what she outwardly portrays. A heart-rending childhood followed by an abusive engagement leaves her broken in all ways possible. A chance encounter provides the fork in the road she so desperately desires.

Navy SEAL Smith Eppington is fighting the war of his lifetime. One that isn’t fought with weapons and highly sought intelligence. It’s a battle to remember his past. The accident that scarred seventy five percent of his body, and stole the life of his best friend also seized parts and pieces of his memory. When an author asks to interview him for a fiction novel, he’s ready to pour his heart out no matter the cost.

The friendship that blossoms between Smith and Carina is something extraordinary. It’s a living, breathing love story about finding yourself, change that is out of your control, grasping what you can, and letting go of everything else.

In a twist of kismet, remembering could destroy everything, but fiction may be what saves the day. A friendship built on new truths and a relationship torn apart by old lies collide in a poignant novel by International Bestselling Author, Rachel Robinson.

Excerpt:

I take a good look at myself in the bathroom mirror. I’m not gorgeous by any means but I do find myself pretty. My long dark locks hang loose before I throw it into a messy bun to get it out of the way. There is minimal makeup on my face with just a touch of powder and some mascara to make my eyes pop. The freckles splattered lightly along my cheeks seem to make me look younger than my 23 years. However, as I stare into my dark brown eyes, they tell a different story.

I grew up too fast after losing my parents when I realized the world wasn’t fair. My grandmother did her best to care for me but she was old and frail. I always assumed I would have lost her years earlier but I was lucky for the time I did have with her. I had to help care for her though, just as much as she cared for me. I learned how to cook not long after moving into her house, and I had to do every chore there was because it was too difficult for her. I made sure she took her pills on time everyday among other things. By the time I had been with her a year, I felt more like her parent then she was to me.

When I lost her years later, I was devastated just as much as I was losing my parents and at the time I only had Sean and his family left. I had no other family as I took care of myself. I went to college, got a great job, and was well on my way to living the life I always imagined. But it had always felt empty somehow. Like there as a missing piece and I could never figure out what it was that was missing from my life.

Until now.

I loved Sean. I still do. He will always have a piece of my heart but Brad has always had my soul. Sean just filled some of the void that Brad had left behind when we were younger.

I am shocked to realized that after all this time Brad has felt the same. Now that he is here claiming me, making me his irrevocably, and filling everything I never realized was missing in my life, I am scared. It was one thing to lose Sean. I knew eventually I could move on with my life and look back on the memories of him with a smile. If something were to happen to Brad, I would become shattered. Forever broken and I would wither away into nothing. I would only ever just exist.

Life has a way of taking everything that I love and care about away from me. It is inevitable that I will lose Brad and I cannot let that happen. As much as I want him, my need for him to remain safe and keep me from being completely shattered is to push him away. I just hope I am strong enough to do it.

Once I step back into the living room after cleaning myself up and getting my emotions in check, Brad is already waiting for me with determination in his eyes.

“I see the wheels turning in that pretty little head of yours but I am not leaving here until we hash this out. You’re mine, Lainey. Every piece of you is mine; always has been and always will be. I let Sean have you and that was my first mistake. I almost lost you to him. I loved Sean. I would never want to disrespect him. But I know he would want you to move on and be happy. He would want someone to love you just as much as he had. I can guarantee that nobody, not even Sean, has ever or will ever love you as much as I do. You’re my only reason for living. After today, you will know whom you belong to. I guarantee it.”

Not once did Brad show an ounce of insincerity in his speech. He meant every word and it sent tingles down my spine with his declaration. I wanted him again. What’s more is I wanted in his embrace. However, I was still scared at the thought that I would lose him eventually.

“I can’t. If I lose you, I will never recover. And I can guarantee that I will lose you. Everyone I love and care about is taken from me.”

“I’m not going anywhere princess. You’re mine and I am never letting you go and I sure as fuck ain’t going anywhere.”

“You can’t promise me that. Anything could happen to take you away. It’s just easier if I put distance between us before I get too close.”

“Let’s say you’re right. Would you rather take the chance of losing me and regretting never taking the chance to see what we could have been? I think you would regret never taking the chance to make memories of us and missing out on everything you ever dreamed of.” I contemplate his words and know that he is right. But I am still fearful. He doesn’t get that I will become a shell of my former self if I lost him.

Brad stalks towards me with heat in his eyes, but there is something more pronounced. Triumph dances along his features as he realizes he’s winning this battle of wills. As much as I hate the idea of losing him, the thought of never having taken a chance to see where this will go hurts even worse.

“Take a chance with me. Let me show you how to truly live. You’ve hidden away in fear for far too long and it’s time to start living.” He pulls me too him and I give no resistance. What’s the point? He’s right that I need to stop living in fear all of the time. Maybe this time I won’t lose someone I love. For once in my life, fate may give me mercy and let me keep this one man to live my life with instead of taking him like my parents, my grandma, and Sean.

I close my eyes as Brad glides his fingers along my cheek and jaw before gripping the back of my neck giving me chills with his dominance.

“Ok.” I whisper. “I’ll take a chance. I’ll live for you, for me and for everyone that has been taken from me. I’m yours in every way. Promise me I will never lose you?” I chew my bottom lip with nervousness.

Brads lips turn up in a smirk making my insides quiver in anticipation. “You bet princess. I’m not going anywhere now that I’ve finally got you in my arms.” Pulling me into his embrace, his hard body creating warmth and safety among other things, to flow through me.

I suck in a breath from his words knowing he means every one before he lands a soft kiss on my lips. Slowly he deepens the kiss, applying more pressure before licking the seems causing me to open for him before plunging his tongue inside creating a moan from deep inside my chest.

Before I know it, he has me pinned to the couch, stripped me completely for the second time and has me straddling him as I set the pace giving long, deep strokes, chasing our release slowly before finally cresting over into bliss. My heart soars and somehow I know I will never get enough. I just hope fate doesn’t swoop in and ruining everything.

About Whitney

I am an author, blogger, and mom to the best kid ever. On the days that are not hectic (which is hardly ever) I spend my time writing what I can. I write mostly contemporary adult romance but I think I will venture out just a little and write a few for teens to broaden my reader spectrum. I have always been imaginative making up stories and friends when I was younger, and once I had a teacher tell me how horrible a story I wrote was, that I didn’t write until just a few years ago. I realized I don’t care what her or anyone else thinks, as long as I love what I write then I am happy. That doesn’t mean I don’t want readers to love my books, I am just understanding that not everyone will love what they read and I am ok with that.

I also run a blog with two other awesome ladies called The Club and I hope that you would take a look and see what we have going on. I was just kind of thrust into it but I love exploring new genres, finding new authors, and reading a range of books I might not have heard of before then. It also helps I love to tell other readers about some great authors.

I grew up in Southern California, and on top of being and author, blogger and mom, I also love to watch movies, read excessively, go to hockey and baseball games, and relax with just my friends and family.

I hope you take the chance to check out my books and hopefully enjoy them.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Dragons Need Love, Too (I Like Big Dragons Series #2) by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Dragons Need Love, Too
Series: I Like Big Dragons Series #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Release Date: October 19, 2016

Nikolai Vassago has a plan.

His day starts out fairly normal. Get up, kick some ass, fondle his beard, take some names.
One second he’s participating in a normal every day mission, and the next he’s saving the one woman that fate has promised him for the rest of his life from the grips of a criminal mastermind.

Nikolai can’t say he’s altogether displeased with what he’s given, though. Not with that gorgeous brunette that would soon be warming his bed.

The same can’t be said for Brooklyn.

Living in a commune most of her life meant she wasn’t exposed to all of life’s craziness. The moment she turned eighteen, she was off and running, experiencing all of what life had to give.
That means she sometimes jumps in feet first, not thinking about consequences until the deed is already done.
Nikolai rescues her from a fate worse than hell, throwing her on the back of his dragon and flying off into the night.
He’s a go-with-the-flow kind of man. Brooklyn, however, is not.

Having been caged for the first eighteen years of her life, she wants nothing more than to be free to do what she pleases, consequences be damned.

Nikolai, however, has different ideas, and he’s not above using his masculine will to prove to her that she’s exactly where she needs to be.

I don’t know why I never expected Nikolai to be able to fight.

He had the muscles.

He worked out.

He was aware.

But he never struck me as fierce.

I wasn’t thinking that anymore, though, as I watched him beat the ever loving shit out of his opponent.

He never used a single one of his powers to accomplish it, either.

He did it all with sheer strength, force of will, and knowledge.

He was divine.

All we were supposed to be doing was buying some supplies for the house.

It’d been over two months since I’d woken from my coma, six weeks since he’d told me I was his mate and even longer since the housekeeper had stocked the kitchens.

I’d never been so happy to leave the confines of a house.

I would’ve been happy with going in a plain old car; but, today, Nikolai had taken me on a motorcycle, of all things.

I’d always wanted to ride on one but had never had the courage to ask for a ride.

Today, though, I’d practically begged Nikolai for us to take it.

He’d argued that a truck would hold more groceries, but I’d been adamant.

I didn’t even know why, either.

Just the thought of being in the open air, outside the confines of the sanctuary, turned me into a giggling mass of excitement.

And I was sure that nothing would ruin this day…but I’d been wrong.

Since I was now watching my man get ganged up on by five men.

My uncle’s cronies could ruin my day, as evidenced by the stupid goon trying to slash Nikolai’s face off with a fuckin’ saber sword.

I’d at first tried to help Nikolai, but his insistence that I back up and stay the hell out of it had been loud and clear, even when he hadn’t actually said any of those words out loud.

But he’d been awesome at screaming them inside my head like I was a disobeying three-year-old, rather than a twenty-six-year-old grown ass adult who knew how to wipe her own butt.

I watched with the brick wall of a convenience store at my back.

Nikolai’s bike was on its side where he’d dumped it.

My arm was scratched, and a strange throbbing sensation was going on with my ribs.

Funny enough, I hadn’t remembered ever hitting my ribs. Nikolai had been extremely careful about laying his bike down as we slid.

He’d also made me wear protective clothing, such as a brand new pair of motorcycle boots. A leather jacket with padding in the elbows and back, as well as a pair of pants that were supposedly flame proof.

I was glad he’d forced me to wear them now; but a scant hour before, as I’d been getting dressed, I’d been reluctant.

“Duck!” Nikolai screamed.

Then, I was seeing nothing but black. Everything around me was black.

“Nikolai!” I whispered frantically. “I can’t see!”

Strong arms, the arms that I was coming to care for in the short few days that we’d officially started to ‘date,’ wrapped around me.

“Shh,” he breathed, so low that I couldn’t be sure that he said anything at all.

Grab the bike, he whispered through my brain.

I moved my arms forward and grabbed on to the bike, feeling him shift as he got on. Then he pulled me on behind him and a loud roar sounded as he turned over the engine.

“Hold on,” he rushed.

I held on.

BLOG TOUR ~ Roommate by Jenika Snow

Brendan

I’ve done pretty damn well in hiding my feelings for her over the years, but having Meghan under the same roof as me, and only feet from my bed makes it hard to control myself.

The truth is when it comes to Meghan I don’t want to practice self-control. I love her.

Meghan

I’ve known him nearly my whole life. He’s arrogant, gets under my skin, but is gorgeous and caring, too. And as much as I want to say it doesn’t affect me, that Brendan doesn’t affect me I’d be lying.

The truth is I love him, and I don’t know if that’ll end up destroying me.

Brendan

She needed a place to stay, and now she’s got a roommate … me. But I’m about to show her that I want more than a friendly arrangement.

I’ve never been good at sharing, and when it comes to her, she’s mine.

Warning: You like short, hot, straight to the point stories? Do you want drama-free sexiness that leaves nothing to the imagination? Do you want a story that is pretty unbelievable, but gives you the warm fuzzies at the same time? Well then, leave your panties at the door because that’s what’s going down in this quickie.

Right here, right now, with the way he looked at me, that whatever was going on between us was … real.

He wanted me the way I wanted him, and all I wanted to do was be with him.

I didn’t care if there were any risks in being with Brendan, or even if I should.

I felt him playing with the wisps of hair by my ear, and chills raced up my spine. The tips of his fingers would brush the curve of my ear every so often, and I just wanted to be strong here and go for what I wanted … him. We might have said we loved each other, but it still felt so unreal.

“It’s only ever been you, Meghan.”

“That’s so hard to believe,” I said sincerely. Brendan was gorgeous, smart, and witty. He drew people in. He could have had anyone he wanted, even if I’d never actually seen him with anyone.

He shook his head and looked at my mouth again. I felt him move his fingers along my jawline and then over my cheek. I parted my mouth as I sucked in a breath when I felt him move those digits along my lips.

“No, it’s just you for me. It always has been.” He moved just a little closer so his body was now pressed against mine. I made this involuntary noise in the back of my throat when his muscles came in contact with my softness.

I also felt how hard he was.

Big.

Thick.

Long.

And all because of me.

“I can’t even think of anyone else because I’m so fucking in love with you,” he murmured, still looking at my mouth, still running his fingers along the swell of my bottom lip. “I don’t ever want anyone else, Meghan, and I’ve been working up the courage, trying to be a man about it all, and tell you how I felt for years now.”

I couldn’t think, couldn’t even breathe after he spoke.

“I want to show you with my mouth,” he said low, deep, his voice moving along my flesh. “I want to show you with my tongue and hands how much you mean to me.” He pressed his lower body harder against mine. “And I want to show you with my cock just how good I can make you feel.”

Oh. Shit. I had definitely just fallen down the rabbit hole.

excerpt

“It’s okay… I’ve been sitting here like a lonely cat lady for all the people to judge.”

“Stop being so dramatic; no one cares that you’re here alone. Plus, don’t you go to that pizza place at night and eat by yourself?”

“I do, and that’s not by choice you know.”

“I know. Since we don’t have much time left, you ready for this?” she asks, but the look on her face reassures me that I’m not going to be happy about this.

“No, I’m not ready. I still think you have something up your sleeve and aren’t telling me. I swear Ginger, this will be the end of our friendship if you’re tricking me into anything illegal, hazardous to my health, or something that could possibly get me killed or kidnapped. Do you understand?” I finish as my finger’s pointing at her.

“Calm down and untie those granny panties. I told you, this is perfectly legal and legit. Plus, my friend Megan owns the business.”

“Fine, what is this great plan to get me out of financial debt?”

“Sex toys. You’ll be a consultant while hosting parties. Isn’t it great?” she finishes saying to me rather loudly as she passes me the folder.

“Sex toys? What the hell are you talking about? I’m not using sex toys or videoing myself using them. No way Ginger… This totally crosses the line.”

“No, you ding bat. It’s like those parties where you have a girl’s night out and order sex toys. You know, you explain what each item is and make it fun, they buy, and you make money. I swear Megan brings in over sixty thousand a year from this; you can totally pay off your loans and get ahead.”

“Ginger, have you forgotten one tiny little problem?” I say and lean over the table so I can whisper the next part. “I can’t say the word penis in front of anyone without turning red like a tomato. How in the world do you expect me to say it in front of people I don’t even know, and describe what to do with all of them?”

Synopsis:

He was my brother’s best friend and seven years older than me.

He was a tatted up bad boy, indulging in one night stands like they were going out of style.

So why did I want to tear his clothes off every time we got within five feet of each other?

She was only eighteen years old when we met for the first time.

She was a good girl who avoided guys like me, but that didn’t stop me from picturing all the things I wanted to do to her-to do with her. She was too young though, and my best friend’s baby sister. I couldn’t let things go where I wanted. I couldn’t touch her-couldn’t taint her with my darkness. I knew it could never happen. It would never happen… but it did.

Excerpt:

He’s Lucifer in the flesh with those deep brown eyes and dark-as-sin hair. My eyes move down, taking in the close-shaved beard hiding the contours of his chiseled jawline, before continuing on to his full lips. I carefully study their masculine shape. I can still remember what those lips felt like on mine; even though I’ve done everything I can to forget. I wish I could erase the memory of how he gripped the back of my hair tight in his fist and tugged me forward until our lips were just a whisper of a breath apart.

“Is this what you want?” he’d asked. I could feel his warm breath on my mouth before he’d softly brushed his lips against mine. “Do you want to see how close to the fire you can be without getting burned, little girl?”

I tried to pull away, incensed at being called little girl. I wasn’t a girl. I was a twenty-one- year-old woman; perfectly capable of knowing what I should and shouldn’t be doing. I knew which heading kissing him fell under – insanity.

He was my brother’s best friend.

He was seven years older than me.

He was a pig when it came to casual sex; indulging in one-night stands like they were going out of style.

That alone should have been enough to repulse me, but for some odd reason, it didn’t. It only made me wonder what kind of things he would do to me. I was smart enough to recognize that those three things combined were a recipe for disaster. The wreckage left over would be the pieces of my heart, and I couldn’t put myself out there for him on the off chance that he wouldn’t break me. My heart was damaged enough already.

He’d held my head in place as he’d swooped in, taking my lips in a kiss so hot I felt like I was going to burn up in flames. His tongue had plundered my mouth, punishing me for pulling away, for trying to resist him. He showed me who was in control with that kiss. He showed me I wouldn’t ever truly get away from him, and I hated him for that. I hated him for ruining other guys for me; but most of all I hated him for what he’d said when he pulled away from me.

“Stick to kissing those boys at school. Men want a woman in their arms, not a little girl.” He looked at me with such disdain, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. I wanted to disappear, go someplace where his painful words couldn’t hurt me anymore. Where my memory could be wiped clean of Derek Santiago and his handsome face.

That kiss is still the hottest one I’ve ever had to this day, but I still despise him for the cruel words he callously threw at me. Those words tore me apart and made me second guess myself. It took me a long time to realize what he said wasn’t motivated by me at all. It was the result of him despising himself.

“She wants to play. Game on.” —Leo Foxx

Giving a woman what she wants is my business. I’ve built a career on it. I mean, is there anything more beautiful than seeing a woman get exactly what she wants, exactly the way she wants it, with exactly the man she wants it from? Nothing I’ve ever seen comes close.

There’s just one little catch. Sometimes women go looking in the wrong places. Sometimes they need a little help figuring out what they want in a man. That’s where I come in. I’ve spent years studying what women want. I mean what they really want.

Sounds like a great job for a guy, right? A dream career. Especially since it’s become so much more. It’s a multimillion-dollar corporation called Checkmate Inc., and I’m the CEO. One of the youngest on record. Except a few feminist groups have gotten the wrong impression and are starting to make noise. Something about how Checkmate helps give guys an unfair advantage over women. And the one woman who can help me can also sink my company to the bottom of the Hudson—and drag me along with it.

Excerpt

The event photographer my assistant hired corrals me and Checkmate’s other two founding partners for a photo op. Dexter Moore, in charge of our retail division, flanks my left side looking metro-stylish, having traded his coveted white socks and flip-flops for expensive Italian shoes to look the part of his job. Unlike in our college days, he now manages to brush his dark hair and wears a neatly trimmed mainstream-hipster look. Oscar Strong – Oz, as we call him – head of Research and Development, takes the spot on my right, dressed more comfortably in jeans and a trendy blazer. He’s also mastered the uses of a brush since our punk-ass-kid days are over, but he goes for a looser flow-and-comb look for his light brown hair. Khakis are a thing of the past for all three of us, seeing as how that was our standard uniform when we were members of our college chess team. But all three of us kept the glasses. Sort of a pact between bros, so we never forget our roots and what it took to get here.

“Let’s make this quick. There’s a problem in the lab, so I gotta go,” Oz says. Really, he just hates getting his picture taken.

“Your sister just walked in.” Dex is the opposite and loves smiling for the camera. The flash goes off once, twice, three times in quick succession.

My eyes trek to the entrance of the rotunda. Since I’m six-two, I can see over most of the crowd. My little sister is a full foot shorter than me, and it’s impossible to find her in the ocean of guests all talking, eating, and drinking. But a path parts in the crowd, heading in our direction, and even though I can’t see her, I know it’s Ava. She’s determined and far too bold for her own good. Which makes me batshit crazy when it comes to protecting her from douchebags who will take advantage of her and break her heart.

The photographer tells us to strike a different pose, and we do. Oz grumbles under his breath. Dex strikes a pose worthy of a GQ fashion shoot. I sigh and smile and watch for my sister as she makes her way toward us.

The path weaves left then back right, and finally Ava reaches the fringe of the crowd. She’s five years younger than me, and a protective instinct surges through me because I’ve been her guardian since our parents were killed in a car accident eight years ago. That’s right: I’ve been her brother, father, and mother all at once, since I was twenty-one. I’m told the family resemblance is unmistakable since we have the same vivid blue eyes and honey-blond hair that has a natural wave to it—physical description courtesy of my personal life-stylist at Checkmate’s anchor retail studio on Fifth Avenue.

Okay, fine. Wardrobe, haircut, and really cool Armani glasses courtesy of the personal life-stylist too.

Ava waves, smiles, and then I see her. Not her, as in my little sister. Her, as in the brunette trailing behind Ava, trying to keep up. And I remember that Ava said she was bringing a friend who works in public relations. Thick dark brown hair is pulled into a ponytail that brushes over one slender shoulder. Her clothes are elegant and professional with a subtly chic edge to them. She’s looking down, like she’s making sure not to step on any toes. Then she breaks free from the crowd too, and her head darts up to look around just long enough for me to glimpse the stark contrast of cobalt eyes.

Cobalt. My favorite element on the Periodic Table.

As they approach, Ava opens her arms wide to give her big brother a hug. But I’m not actually looking at my sister. I’m looking over her shoulder. Her friend’s gaze lifts to mine, locks on, and holds me mesmerized. The way she carries herself tells me she’s confident and self-assured. Probably smart as a whip. And then it happens. Everyone else around me melts away as she pulls a plump, red lip between her teeth. Long black lashes flutter downward to break our eye contact, and I know.

I’ve never met her. I don’t even know her name yet. But that small gesture with her lip and the downward brush of her long lashes tells me she’s not sure what she wants from a man. She’ll figure it out, though. The women who are confident in every other area of their lives always do. I also know that when the light bulb finally switches on, she’s going to ask me to fuck her. And I won’t be able to say no.
