BLP REVIEW ~ REBECCA
When Tracy and I went to RARE14 last year in Edinburgh we each came away with a few new authors to try, several on my list (all based in Australia bizarrely!) have been outstanding reads, T Gephart, K.M. Golland, Lesley Jones, and so it was time to try another, Chantal Fernando. I have a couple of her books on my endless TBR list but in my usual ass backwards style I decided to start with Time Will Tell which it turns out is book #3. Yet another Dozy Tart Book Whore moment when I should know better!
I started it while having a rare bubble bath, Do Not Disturb the Mother time, grabbing 10 to 15 minutes of peace. This turned into 2 hours, topping up the hot water, refusing to get out while demanding the minions aka hubby and kids bring me coffee and devouring Time Will Tell. I thoroughly enjoyed it, finished with a smile and went straight on to find Maybe This Time on my kindle and continue with the author and series. Oh and I got out of the bath – eventually, resembling a prune!
I really liked everything about it, such an easy happy book that kept my attention, the writing flowed beautifully the whole way through. The characters both primary and secondary were so full of life they leapt off the page and into the imagination, with humour and affection the banter kept on coming and it was just delicious. Not particularly deep, not particularly angsty just totally perfect. I love books that shred you but sometimes I crave a HEA romance with just a touch of edge rather than a huge drama filled road, so unicorns, rainbows plus an MC background and Ms Fernando`s writing has delivered me exactly that.
Trillian I loved from word go, independent, strong, with a sassy attitude hidden a lot of the time. Her relationship with Zach (the family we pick are always the best!) was a joy to read, and I adored their interactions together, smiled at every damn one!
Xander (the bad manwhore!) I took a little longer to warm to for reasons that will become apparent when you read but he grew on me and despite a couple of bumps watching Trillian take a chance and go outside her comfort zone with him had me cheering for the both of them.
There is such a list of secondary characters that I adored, it`s too many to mention in full but Arrow, April and Rake cannot go without a mention.
This is a story of taking a risk, seeing where it will go, working together to mesh your lives, dealing with loss and of friendships and family – blood and choice. It`s made to look easy by the author but a feel good book like this that leaves you smiling, wanting to drop everything, and delve into every book she`s written to further discover the world and characters created is quite the feat. So Bravo Ms Fernando because I will be doing just that, job well done and a bloody enjoyable book.
