As the blackness starts to fade away, I see that white light, but it doesn’t really look like that tunnel. No, it’s just a scene change, and if I could muster up enough strength, I’d groan because there are things in my life I’d rather not relive. It’s bad enough that I have the memories and have been dealing with the fallout for far too long. Reliving it all over again is more agonizing than the first time around, because now, I know the truth. I betrayed my brother in the worst possible way when he’d done nothing wrong, but by the time I found out, it was far too late.

So why am I having these flashbacks playing in slow motion? I thought when you were on death’s door, your life was supposed to flash before your eyes. So why am I replaying every single mistake I’ve ever made as if it were the first time—in slow motion instead of quick bursts? Maybe my life did flash before my eyes and it happened so fast that I missed it. Maybe I’m dead after all and this? This is my hell.

I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF TESSA TEEVAN BOOKS SAT ON MY KINDLE FOR A WHILE NOW THAT, DUE TO OTHER COMMITMENTS I HAVEN’T GOT ROUND TO YET, SO THIS WAS MY FIRST INTRODUCTION TO THE WELLINGTONS AND TO TESSA.

I SHOULD NOT LIKE BRANSON ACCORDING TO THE BLURB AND HIS ASSHOLE SELF AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK BUT, BEING THE FICKLE BITCH I AM, I ADORED HIM FROM FIRST MEET. I ALWAYS LOVE THE TORTURED, BROODY ONES THE BEST! HOWEVER, I WOULD DEFY ANYONE TO READ THIS AND NOT HAVE MS TEEVAN TURN THEIR OPINIONS AROUND – SHE WROTE HIM WITH SUCH DEPTH AND SYMPATHY THAT YOU JUST WANT TO FIX HIM AND FUCK HIM………………………………….. OR FUCK HIM AND FIX HIM, WHICHEVER!!!!

THESE ARE THE WORDS ARI WRITES TO BRANSON AFTER THEIR FIRST MEETING, NEVER EXPECTING TO SEE HIM AGAIN. HIS MEMORIES OF THAT DRUNKEN NIGHT ARE INCOMPLETE BUT THE WORDS RESONATED WITH HIM AND SO HE STARTED TO CHANGE THE DIRECTION HIS LIFE WAS SPIRALING TOWARDS.
AN ACCIDENT PLACES THEM TOGETHER AGAIN.

MY BRAIN IS SCREAMING AT ME TO RUN AWAY, TO FIND SAFETY, BUT THEN I LOOK BACK INTO THE CAR. HER HAND PRESSES AGAINST THE GLASS, HER FINGERS SPREADING, AND SHE LOOKS AT ME, TEARS FILLING HER EYES. I PRESS MY HAND TO THE WINDOW, COVERING HERS, AND IN THAT INSTANT, THE WORLD AROUND US STOPS. OUR EYES LOCK, KNOWING WE MAY BE THE LAST THING EACH OTHER SEES, AND FOR A SPLIT SECOND, THERE’S RECOGNITION IN HER EYES. THERE’S A FAMILIARITY HERE, AS IF I’VE MET HER BEFORE, BUT I CAN’T PLACE HER. I’M TRANSFIXED ON HER FOR A MOMENT, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW I KNOW HER.
I NO LONGER FEEL THE HEAT ON MY BACK, THE FLAMES ON MY FACE, ALL I SEE IS HER. ALL I FEEL IS HER. SHE’S SOMEONE IMPORTANT – I CAN FEEL IT DEEP DOWN IN MY SOUL, BUT I’M NOT SURE WHY. WITHOUT QUESTION, SOMETHING INSIDE ME SHIFTS, AND I START POUNDING MY FIST AGAINST THE GLASS, KNOWING I NEED TO GET HER OUT OF THERE.

YEP FIX HIM AND FUCK HIM, TOLD YOU! PAGES IN AND MS TEEVAN HAD ME ROOTING FOR BOTH OF THEM. WHAT STUCK ME MOST ABOUT HOW THIS RELATIONSHIP HAS BEEN WRITTEN IS THAT MISTAKES ARE MADE ON BOTH SIDES BUT THE APOLOGIES AND THE WILLINGNESS TO WORK AND FIGHT FOR IT SHINES THROUGH FROM BRANSON AND ARI, I GET SO BORED READING WHERE ONE IS DOING ALL THE COMPROMISING AND WORK – RELATIONSHIPS TAKE TWO, THEY TAKE EFFORT, COMPROMISE, HUMOUR, PASSION AND FRIENDSHIP – THIS IS SHOWN BEAUTIFULLY IN CONFLAGRATION IN MY OPINION.

ARI IS A WOMAN DISCOVERING HER STRENGH, ACKNOWLEDGING HER WORTH AND HER JOURNEY, BOTH TOGETHER WITH BRANSON AND ALONE, TO DISCOVER HERSELF IS JUST BEAUTIFULLY DONE.
I DETEST REVIEWS THAT TELL ME THE WHOLE BOOK SO I’M NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE STORY DEVELOPMENT, THE DISCOVERY IS THE PLEASURE, BUT WHAT I WILL SAY IS THAT THIS IS THE SWEETEST, PUREST, CLASSIEST CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE IT’S BEEN MY PLEASURE TO READ FOR A WHILE. TOTALLY UNEXPECTED IN THAT IT JUST GRABBED THOSE HEARTSTRINGS AND DID NOT LET GO.
